It positions the United States as Australia’s largest foreign direct investor. These two major players in the Asia Pacific Economy have forged an alliance that champions democracy and fortitude.
COVID-19, however, interrupted many investment opportunities across the Pacific. Both countries had to impose border restrictions and put many business processes on hold, forcing governments and industry alike to …

Collaboration And The Emerging Craft Brewing Industry: An Exploratory Study, Alonso Duarte, Nevil Alexander, Seamus O'Brien
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
In adopting various elements associated with the theory of collaboration, this exploratory study investigates collaboration in the context of predominantly micro- and small craft breweries. The findings revealed that collaboration within other brewers helped increase product quality, gain basic knowledge of new recipes, and enhance strategic knowledge about the industry. The applicability of the elements related to the theory of collaboration was confirmed. For instance, the element of stakeholders of a problem domain was aligned with the notion that craft brewery operators’ actions, including collaboration, can have significant impacts on the problem domain that brought them together

Refining Thoughts On Culture: Insights Derived From Australia And New Zealand, Kevin D. Lo, Amanda Budde-Sung
Organization, Leadership, and Communication
Culture and cross-cultural differences are increasingly important in international business and management. However, the existing models of national culture may not accurately reflect intra-cultural and intra-regional variation. We examine Australia and New Zealand as examples of the national model of culture falling short with respect to both cultural clustering and intracultural variation. Given that both of these countries are attaining greater prominence in international business, we highlight the need to consider their uniqueness and what we can learn for both management research and practice. As we call attention to the important distinctions that

A Comparison Of Market Entry Strategies Adopted By Information And Communication Technology (Ict) Firms From Major And Emerging Software Exporting Nations, Stephen Kelly, Jennifer Harrison
Adjunct Professor Stephen J Kelly
This study examines the market entry practices of Australian and Pakistani Information and Communication Technology (ICT) firms and the proposition that Local Software Economy (LSE) maturity affects the selection of market entry practices. The question is significant as it is focused on an indirect effect – namely LSE maturity – on the adoption of market entry practices, with indirect effects being identified in recent literature as being significant and an area in need of further research. The findings provide support for the proposition, indicating that Australian and Pakistani firms, representative of firms operating in high and low maturity LSEs, respectively, …
Foreign Bank Efficiency In Australia: What Makes A Difference?, Jan-Egbert Sturm, Barry Williams
Foreign Bank Efficiency In Australia: What Makes A Difference?, Jan-Egbert Sturm, Barry Williams
Barry Williams
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the factors that affect differences in measured efficiency of foreign-owned banks operating in Australia. The relevance of both comparative advantage theory and new trade theory to multinational banking in Australia will be tested.
Design/methodology/approach – A three stage research method is employed. First, estimates of foreign bank efficiency are drawn from a larger sample of domestic and foreign banks in Australia. Efficiency is estimated using parametric distance functions, applying several different specifications of inputs and outputs. Second, factor analysis is used to estimate a series of common factors drawn from …

Exploration Of Firm Strategic Control In Australia And The United States And Implications For Global Governance Structures, Timothy Kiessling, Keith Duncan, Michael Harvey
Keith Duncan
Our empirical study of 246 Directors, financial executives, accountants and credit/security analysts explore the concept of firm corporate control and what theoretically developed attributes contribute to an entity having corporate control over another. We first develop and test a model of corporate control. We then delve into what combinations of direct ownership, indirect ownership, ownership dispersion, and board of director representation are required for dominant corporate control. Due to the use of conjoint analysis, we are able to make suggestions as to the relative importance of each in regard to corporate control.

A Trans-Tasman Business Elite?, Nicholas Harrigan, Shaun Goldfinch
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
This article examines the close relationship between the Australian and New Zealand business communities to ask whether the relationship is best characterized as simply a bi-lateral trading relationship, or whether there is evidence of the formation of a transnational business community. This article also seeks to explore the nature of Australia—New Zealand integration, and specifically the degree to which the relationship is interdependent or asymmetrical. Data are drawn from quantitative sources — including a dataset developed from the IBISWorld's Largest 2000 Enterprises in Australia and New Zealand, Who's Who in Australia, and Who's Who in Business in Australia — and …

From Ambivalence To Activism: Australia And The Negotiation Of The 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Christopher Hubbard
Theses: Doctorates and Masters
This Dissertation presents a study of Australia's involvement in the negotiation and early interpretation of the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), an instrument which remains the most important global nuclear arms control measure in international law. Using data from recently released Australian government documents, the study analyses the process by which Australia was transformed from an ambivalent nuclear sceptic within the Western alliance, into a steadfast global campaigner against the spread of nuclear weapons. It concludes that Australia's urgent search during 1967 and 1968 for coherence in its policy on nuclear weapons acquisition, largely played out within sections of the …

Australian Economy, R S. Kingwell, Juliann Lloyd-Smith
Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4
The Australian economy has experienced some dramatic changes in economic conditions over the lasdt few years. Low or falling export prices for our main exports, greater volatility in exchange rate movements and an underlying depreciation of the Australian dollar, high real interset rates, high inflation rates compared with our trading partners and a burgeoning foreign debt, are all features of Australias economic situation.
The economic environment affects the rural economy and has major implications of the prospects of Australia's rural industries. Therefore it is important to understand not only the main economic conditions facing Australia, as well as some of …
