Organizations, looking for new ways to collect and harness big data, are scouring the Internet in search of untapped outlets of information about job applicants and are using analytics on their internal big data generated by internal HRIS and processes. Despite being experts in organizational systems, quantitative and research methodologies, human behavior, and organizational change, human resource professionals are often intimidated by big data and analytics and are left out of critical analytic business planning, implementation, and evaluation conversations. Florida Statewide Symposium: Best Practices in Undergraduate Research
This presentation describes faculty-Library collaboration efforts to enhance research and information literacy skills of our undergraduate students. An example of collaboration between business Faculty and Library Coordinator to facilitate research problem and data finding is presented with Canvas demonstration. The structured methodology is presented with implications on the experiential learning efforts. Additional examples from Library to improve information literacy and writing skills to enhance UG research are demonstrated

In an ideal world, we avoid all mistakes in our work. Some mistakes are preventable and others are unavoidable. A few common mistakes in data science that can be minimized include assuming correlation implies causation, modeling with an unrepresentative sample, and focusing on the mean without understanding the distribution. This talk will give an overview of some of the simple yet common mistakes in data science and guidance on how to avoid them.
