The focus of my research is on Ghana, because I completed a microfinance internship there. The methodology of this research is a combination of direct observation, interviews, and secondary research. Women in Ghana are limited from obtaining greater economic power by formal and informal barriers. Formal barriers are systematic exclusions from resources that prevent women from pursuing greater levels of power, specifically lack of access to capital and unstable political institutions. Informal barriers are perceived by individuals or societies but are not evidenced in the societal structure. Informal barriers that hinder women from progress include community restraints regarding the role …

Every year for Business Week, the Huntsman School Business Council, a group of student leaders representing all business students, puts together a service project to benefit the community. This year, they elected to serve the Huntsman Cancer Institute. In collaboration with representatives of HCI, they decided to undertake three projects: create fleece blankets, decorate composition books into journals, and write letters of encouragement.

Last week 26 Huntsman School of Business Master of Human Resources students put away their text books and cellphones, gave back to the Utah community and learned what it takes to run an organization from the ground up by bottling, labeling, weighing and stacking more than 36,000 cans of beef chunks for the holiday season.

Businessman and philanthropist Bob Gay visited the Huntsman School on November 13, and delivered an incredible talk about business, conscience, and service. Although Mr. Gay didn’t care for business growing up, his father, a very successful businessman, convinced him to enroll in Harvard Business School’s PhD program in economics. From there his career moved from McKinsey and Company, to Bain Capital, where he was managing director for 16 years, and then co-founder and CEO of Huntsman Gay Global Capital.

There is a huge shortage of Ph.D.s in accounting. According to studies by the American Accounting Association the average accounting professor is now unbelievably 60 years old. Very few people are electing to pursue the rigorous and lengthy trail toward that degree, and we don’t have a Vietnam-type war that young people are trying to defer joining (perhaps a bit of hint about the 60-year olds).

The purpose of this paper is to explore the interface between buyers and suppliers in the context of product innovation in an emerging economy. Specifically, it examines the strategic and tactical initiatives necessary to drive inter-organizational alignment and thus positive innovation outcomes. It also examines the impact of organizational characteristics on product innovation. Design/methodology/approach – Using survey data from 191 organizations in Pakistan, a structural equation model of the relationships between buyers’ and suppliers’ strategic focus on innovation, supplier innovation focus, collaborative innovation, and measures of product innovation and market performance is tested. The Huntsman School of Business and the Northwest University for Nationalities (NWUN), based in Lanzhou, China, announced an academic partnership to offer an undergraduate degree in International Economics. This is the fourth such partnership for the Huntsman School, which now counts over 900 students in China enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in International Economics.

Timothy McFall is a Staff Sergeant in the Utah Army National Guard and has been an active member for over 12 years.He has served two overseas combat tours, once to Iraq in 2004 as an artillery forward observer, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, and once to Afghanistan in 2010 as a medical platoon sergeant, responsible for the daily medical operations of a base near the border with Pakistan. Between deployments, Tim taught leadership skills and small unit tactics at the 640th Regimental Training Institute in Riverton, Utah.

Much like Jon M. Huntsman, the Huntsman School of Business itself is a giver. The term “giver” comes from Adam Grant’s book Give and Take, where he writes that there are three types of people in the world: takers, matchers, and givers. Takers are those who are always trying to get as much as possible from others. Matchers are those who, if they did you a favor, would expect one back (and vice versa). And then there are the givers — those who go out of their way to support and help you, with no strings attached.

Each year, Beta Alpha Psi, the international honors organization for accounting, and the American Institute of CPA’s jointly sponsor the medal of inspiration, which is awarded to the one student whose life story is most likely to encourage others to reach within themselves and find “greatness.” This year they have chosen to honor Huntsman student A. Lucien Butler. The award was presented at the Beta Alpha Psi annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, and includes a $5,000 cash scholarship.

After graduation in 2007, Mike Bailey, Economics (BA) and Math (BS), received a scholarship to Stanford’s PhD program.Nearing graduation from Stanford, Bailey began work at Yahoo! Research. He and his team studied the effectiveness of online targeted advertising and published one of the first papers on the topic. That paper is now one of the most cited research articles in the field of online advertising.

In Spring of 2014 I took the opportunity to go on a Go Global trip with the Huntsman School of Business to London. In preparation, I applied and received an Opportunity Scholarship from the Huntsman School. This financial aid made a great difference in my ability to afford the Go Global trip. My scholarship covered half of my program's expenses and gave me the financial security to fully enjoy my global experience without the overwhelming stress of making ends meet. This experience was one that changed my life and opened my eyes to the possibilities of global business.

Participating in the Go Global: Asia 2014 trip was one of the smartest decisions I have made during my collegiate career.Originally I wanted to go to Asia to learn more about big economic powers like China and South Korea, as well as developing economic nations like Vietnam. However, once I left Asia I had not only learned international economics but I also had experienced Asian culture and learned so much about myself as a student and as a person. This international experience helped me improve as a businesswoman, as a traveler and as a productive citizen as a whole.
