Accurals Quality And Price Synchronicity, Joseph Atkins Johnston Jan 2009

Accurals Quality And Price Synchronicity, Joseph Atkins Johnston

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This study examines the relation between accruals quality and price synchronicity, a measure of the relative amount of firm-specific information reflected in price. Higher accruals quality imply better quality earnings news, hence, more firm-specific information is incorporated into price for firms with higher accruals quality. More firm-specific information reduces price synchronicity, hence, we hypothesize a negative relation between accruals quality and price synchronicity. On the other hand, literature shows that accruals quality reduces idiosyncratic volatility which tends to be negatively correlated with price synchronicity. If the latter effects dominate the relation between accruals quality and price synchronicity, we should observe …

Dispositional Influences On The Intent To Transfer Learning: A Test Of A Structural Equation Model, Bogdan Vladimirovich Yamkovenko Jan 2009

Dispositional Influences On The Intent To Transfer Learning: A Test Of A Structural Equation Model, Bogdan Vladimirovich Yamkovenko

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The transfer research has evolved to a significant body of works during the last two decades. Many relationships however remain unexplored and unexplained. Among these are dispositional characteristics, which are rarely studied in combination with transfer because of difficulties and inconsistencies in measurement. In addition dispositional characteristic are so numerous that it is often difficult to identify a set of such variable that explain the most variance in transfer of training. This study explores the hypothesized relationship between dimensions of the Five Factor model of personality, goal orientation, self-efficacy and intent to transfer training on the job. Most research articles …

Three Essays On The Interest Rate Forward-Futures Differential 1. Empirical Investigation Of The Size And The Nature Of The Eurodollar Futures-Foward Differential 2. Three Essays On The Interest Rate Forward-Futures Differential 1. Empirical Investigation Of The Size And The Nature Of The Eurodollar Futures-Foward Differential 2. Decomposition Of The Interest Rate Forward-Futures Price Differential 3. How Much Premium Is There For Interest Rate Futures?, Andrei Shynkevich

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation analyzes a series of issues that surround both the theoretical modeling and the empirical estimation of the forward-futures differential, commonly known as the convexity adjustment. Opposite to theoretical implication, I find that the magnitude of the forward-futures rate differential is much smaller than what was expected, and that its sign is negative on many occasions. Neither asynchronicity bias, nor the unconventional feature of the Eurodollar futures pricing can explain the observed phenomena. The term structure interpolation error and the two business day lag between the fixing (settlement) date and the transaction (value) date to which the implied forward …

The Definition, Creation, And Evolution Of Buyer-Seller Relationships, Anna Maria Walz Jan 2009

The Definition, Creation, And Evolution Of Buyer-Seller Relationships, Anna Maria Walz

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The theoretical and practical importance of relational exchange is well known. However, customers are often annoyed at companies’ relationship building attempts. In addition, the literature has three core problems: (1) the relational concept is not well defined; (2) little research has accounted for relationship dynamics; and (3) relational constructs’ conceptualizations have become ambiguous. The purpose of this dissertation is to build an integrative and comparative framework that not only delineates relationship stages, but also identifies the unique roles of all relational forms (e.g., firm-firm). Specifically, three research questions are addressed: (1) How is a relationship defined? (2) How is a …

The primary purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence online learners’ intent to continue. This study gathered the data from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and Nicholls State University. The total number of participants was n=122. The findings in this study revealed a positive relationship between online learners’ perceived usefulness and intent to continue (r=.37, p< 0.01), a positive relationship between online learners’ perceived ease of use and intent to continue (r=.44, p< 0.01), a positive relationship between online learners’ perceived flexibility and intent to continue (r=.72, p< 0.01), a positive relationship between online learners’ perceived learner-instructor interaction and intent to continue (r=.52, p< 0.01), and a positive relationship between online learners’ satisfaction and intent to continue (r=.84, p< 0.01). Moreover, the findings showed a negative relationship between online learners’ perceived learner-learner interaction and intent to continue (r= -.27, p< 0.01). Although the learner-learner interaction questionnaire used negative description, it still indicated a positive relationship between perceived learner-learner interaction and online learners’ intent to continue. The Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) revealed that the perceived flexibility and satisfaction had positive influence on the online learners’ intent to continue, and the value of R2 further revealed that the two predictor variables explained 76.4 % of the variance in the online learners’ intent to continue.

Why do some of us have the fourteenth black shoe? Fifty pens? Thirty fishing rods? While some motivations relate to compulsive, impulsive or excessive buying, others relate to collecting, hoarding, fixated buying and stockpiling. However, there is a set of consumers who purchase recurrently, have an inventory far greater than that of a typical consumer and yet do not share the negative characteristics of the extreme buyers mentioned earlier. This set of consumers is termed ‘acquisitive buyers’ and little research exist to understand them. This dissertation establishes the significance of acquisitive buying as a new buying type in terms of …
