The physical structure of the Internet has entered a transition recently due to the demand for higher bandwidth worldwide. Technologies such as T1 and frame relay have been superseded by asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) and digital/asymmetrical subscriber loops (DSL/ASL). Along with the new hardware technology there are improvements in software/network protocols as well. The concepts of quality of service and reservation bandwidth further enhance the efficiency of these new technologies by optimizing the use of the increased bandwidth provided.

Numerous surveys have established the importance of communication skills for entry-level accountants, but none has identified the specific communication skills needed. To help us identify what skills to emphasize in an accounting curriculum, members of the Institute of Management Accounting (IMA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) were surveyed to determine (1) the relative importance of 32 business communication skills cited in business communication literature and (2) the level of satisfaction with college preparation in those skills. Online lecture materials are in wide use, but their level of detail as well as level of sophistication varies greatly. Incorporating some sophisticated yet easy-to-use web features into online lecture materials makes them both more useful and more engaging. The author explains how to apply pop-ups, image swapping, and bookmarks to enliven online materials, and discusses special applications for password protection and date-triggered links.

Colleges and universities frequently require business majors to take managerial accounting. Since many non-accounting majors find accounting boring this may be one of the reasons why they may have a difficult time learning the fundamental concepts of the course. This paper describes a project I employ when teaching managerial accounting to make cost accounting interesting and relevant. One of the reasons students may have a difficult time learning managerial accounting is that traditional accounting assignments generally provide students with all of the numbers. The importance of integrity in business is echoed in the recent disclosures involving Enron, Worldcom, and several other major companies. Academically, the professor must always be aware of the potential for academic dishonesty from students. Academic dishonesty includes plagiarism. This paper reviews the motivations for plagiarism, the methods of detecting and preventing plagiarism, and two electronic agents that assist in plagiarism detection.
