Neutralization Of Fuel Tankering Emissions For Environmental Sustainability, Peter O'Reilly, Maria Petrescu, Fabricio Sulzbacher, Diogo Coutinho

National Training Aircraft Symposium (NTAS)

As aviation has been one of the fastest-growing sources of emissions, this paper explores sustainable solutions in the equation of the economic savings from the fuel tankering practice, in a way it could represent gains of credibility for this industry (Boussauw & Vanoutrive, 2019). The fuel expenses in Brazil have been responsible for the highest operational cost for the airlines and, as a result, there has been an ongoing pursuit of the highest level of efficiency (ANAC, 2019). In this context, this study has been focused on the emerging Brazilian aviation market, and uses primary data collected from three major …

A Qualitative Look Into Repair Practices, Jumana Labib

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

This research poster is based on a working research paper which moves beyond the traditional scope of repair and examines the Right to Repair movement from a smaller, more personal lens by detailing the 6 categorical impediments as dubbed by Dr. Alissa Centivany (design, law, economic/business strategy, material asymmetry, informational asymmetry, and social impediments) have continuously inhibited repair and affected repair practices, which has consequently had larger implications (environmental, economic, social, etc.) on ourselves, our objects, and our world. The poster builds upon my research from last year (see "The Right to Repair: (Re)building a better future"), this time pulling …

The sustainability trend in the market requires businesses to change their usual models and mechanisms of producing goods to cater to consumer preferences. These preferences mainly revolve around the product's brand, price, and accessibility, impacting consumers' choices, priorities, and decisions (Gutierrez & Seva, 2016; Rappler, 2013; Longo et al., 2019). This study investigated more in-depth factors affecting an individual's purchase and non-purchase of sustainable personal hygiene products in the market: bamboo toothbrushes and shampoo bars. For the grounded theory inquiry, participants ages 16-20 from the National Capital Region of the Philippines were recruited. Semi-structured interviews were conducted asking about their …

The Right To Repair: (Re)Building A Better Future, Jumana Labib

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Conference

The goal of this research project was to take a multi-faceted, interdisciplinary approach to research and examine the Right to Repair movement’s progress, current repair practices, impediments, and imperatives, and the various large-scale implications (environmental, economic, social, etc.) stemming from diminished consumer freedom as a result of increased corporate greed and lack of governmental regulations with regards to repair and the environment. This poster exhibits the highlights of my general research project on the Right to Repair movement over the course of this four month internship, and aims to disseminate information about the movement to the wider public in an …

Sustainability Issues And Challenges In Aviation, Maria Gabriela Kaselow Salas, Sunder Raghavan Jan 2020

Sustainability Issues And Challenges In Aviation, Maria Gabriela Kaselow Salas, Sunder Raghavan

Sustainability Conference

Air transportation is essential in moving people and cargo across the globe. There is however increasing recognition by the general public about the negative impact of aviation on the environment. Studies show that commercial aviation is responsible for 2.4% of global carbon emissions (Wright, 2019). Aircraft manufacturers and airlines are reducing their carbon footprint by investing in environmental projects including forest conservation; capturing and reusing methane gas emitted from landfills; and developing fuel-efficient engines, biofuels and electric aircraft. British Airways and other airlines in the International Airlines Group (IAG), have committed to reach the UK government’s target of net zero …

An Application Of Social Media Marketing For Community Sustainable Development, Lei Huang, Amelia Clarke, Wen Tian, Natalie Heldsinger

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

Though the social marketing approach has been developed from commercial marketing, it is a holistic approach from various social sciences disciplines like marketing, psychology, sociology, mass communication and economics. It is basically an art to explore new ways of analyzing problems and solving them effectively. For instance, social marketing influences sustainability through the use of marketing principles to increase awareness, understanding, change attitudes, and motivate the society to change, adopt, or sustain a particular behavior. This paper attempts to explore a framework of social media in light of disseminating the knowledge of a community-wide sustainability plan among various stakeholders. Policy …

A Research Agenda For Advancing The Marketer's Understanding Of Ethical Consumption In A Post-Modern World, Julie M. Pharr Sep 2015

A Research Agenda For Advancing The Marketer's Understanding Of Ethical Consumption In A Post-Modern World, Julie M. Pharr

Atlantic Marketing Association Proceedings

The attribution of moral significance to the choice of everyday consumer goods may well mean that personal consumption is increasingly viewed as an ethical exercise and not simply an economic transaction.

Consumer behavior has emerged as an important moral battleground in the 21st century. Those in doubt of this statement need look no farther than their local Catholic church. In a church encyclical released 06.18.15, Pope Francis called for radical transformation not only of global politics and economics but of individual lifestyles in the battle to confront the environmental deterioration of Earth. An encyclical is a document that serves …

Measuring The Impact Of Transport In The Developing Economies, Ylber Limani, Ermal Lubishtani Nov 2013

Measuring The Impact Of Transport In The Developing Economies, Ylber Limani, Ermal Lubishtani

UBT International Conference

This paper discusses the correlation between transport and the economy. The rationality of doing this research lies on the need for a clearer definition of transport to economic development and for the economic growth of a country or a region. The developing economies should plan their transport based on their economic projections and they should avoid the policies based on infrastructure development and transport resources. In order to discuss this assumption in this paper have correlation analysis is used to observe the transport growth and GDP growth in developed and in developing countries using the data from official bureaus and …

Hotel Guests’ Perceptions Of Sustainable Hotel Practices In A Mexican Destination, Orie Berezan, Michelle Millar, Carola Raab Jun 2010

Hotel Guests’ Perceptions Of Sustainable Hotel Practices In A Mexican Destination, Orie Berezan, Michelle Millar, Carola Raab

Caesars Hospitality Research Summit

Hotel selection and attributes that are important to travelers has been extensively researched using a variety of methods (Dolnicar, 2002). Dolnicar & Otter (2003) confirmed, after reviewing 21studies related to hotel attributes, cleanliness as the top priority, followed by hotel location. In total, 173 attributes were identified that were related to image, price/value, the hotel itself, and service (Lockyer, 2005). None of those attributes, however, were related to environmental attributes of a hotel. For more than a decade, the hospitality industry has been under pressure by government legislation and regulations to implement environmental strategies and thereby reduce their carbon footprint …
