Company employees often see an organizational engagement breakdown when managers do not combine processes and knowledge transfer strategies to achieve goals. Some midlevel managers lose communication and collaboration among business departments as well as with their subordinates, leading to a breakdown in organizational performance. Factors of employee retention have been widely researched and examined. However, research on factors of retention in relation to youth-serving NPOs was limited. Turnover was an issue that many organizations face, but the impacts and implications of turnover for youth-serving nonprofits may be greater. The purpose of this case study was to explore the effects of downsizing on organizational culture based on the perceptions of contractors who work for an independent distributor in a large metropolitan city in the southern United States.
