Nba Expansion And Relocation: A Viability Study Of Various Cities, Daniel A. Rascher, Heather Rascher
Nba Expansion And Relocation: A Viability Study Of Various Cities, Daniel A. Rascher, Heather Rascher
Kinesiology (Formerly Exercise and Sport Science)
An examination of possible expansion or relocation sites for the NBA is undertaken using a two-equation system requiring two-stage probit least squares to estimate. The location model forecasts the best cities for an NBA team based on the underlying characteristics of current NBA teams. The results suggest that Louisville, San Diego, Baltimore, St. Louis, and Norfolk appear to be the most promising candidates for relocation or expansion.

Revenue And Wealth Maximization In The National Football League: The Impact Of Stadia, Daniel A. Rascher
Revenue And Wealth Maximization In The National Football League: The Impact Of Stadia, Daniel A. Rascher
Kinesiology (Formerly Exercise and Sport Science)
The opening of the Palace of Auburn Hills, the SkyDome, and Oriole Park at Camden Yards led to the beginning of a construction boom in professional sport. In the National Football League (NFL) alone, 26 stadiums have been built or renovated in the past 10 years. Due to the additional revenue generated by these facilities and the NFL's current revenue sharing system, professional football franchises are building new stadia for economic reasons rather than to replace unusable or unsafe facilities. The purpose of this study was to determine if a significant difference in net revenue change existed for NFL teams …
A Paradigm For Spreadsheet Engineering Methodologies, Thomas A. Grossman Jr., O Ozluk
A Paradigm For Spreadsheet Engineering Methodologies, Thomas A. Grossman Jr., O Ozluk
Business Analytics and Information Systems
Spreadsheet engineering methodologies are diverse and sometimes contradictory. It is difficult for spreadsheet developers to identify a spreadsheet engineering methodology that is appropriate for their class of spreadsheet, with its unique combination of goals, type of problem, and available time and resources. There is a lack of well-organized, proven methodologies with known costs and benefits for well-defined spreadsheet classes. It is difficult to compare and critically evaluate methodologies. We present a paradigm for organizing and interpreting spreadsheet engineering recommendations. It systematically addresses the myriad choices made when developing a spreadsheet, and explicitly considers resource constraints and other development parameters. This …

The 2003 Annual Report On Global Terrorism: An Information System Failure?, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
This case study concerns a system that generated a contentious U.S. State Department report on global terrorism. For over 20 years, the Department produced and published an annual, nonclassified, retrospective Patterns of Global Terrorism report. However, the report for 2003, published on April 29, 2004 was criticized as an attempt to misrepresent data for political advantage. This case is based on official documents, transcripts, and news articles available on the Internet in mid-July 2004. It summarizes the way the situation unfolded and provides a glimpse at how people tried to figure out what happened and how to explain what happened. …
Information System Risks And Risk Factors: Are They Mostly About Information Systems?, Susan A. Sherer, Steven Alter
Information System Risks And Risk Factors: Are They Mostly About Information Systems?, Susan A. Sherer, Steven Alter
Business Analytics and Information Systems
This article is the second of two whose goal is to advance the discussion of IS risk by addressing limitations of the current IS risk literature. The first article [Alter and Sherer, 2004] presented a general, but broadly adaptable model of system-related risk that addressed the limited usefulness of existing IS risk models for business managers. In this article, we focus on organizing risk factors to make them more useful and meaningful for business managers.
This article shows how the nine elements of the work system framework can be used to organize the hundreds of risk factors in the IS …

A General, But Readily Adaptable Model Of Information System Risk, Steven Alter, Susan A. Sherer
Business Analytics and Information Systems
This article is the first of two whose goal is to advance the discussion of IS risk by addressing limitations of the current IS risk literature. These limitations include:
- inconsistent or unclear definitions of risk,
- limited applicability of risk models,
- frequent omission of the temporal nature of risk, and
- lack of an easily communicated organizing framework for risk factors.
This article presents a general, but broadly adaptable model of system-related risk. The companion article, Volume 14, Article 2[Sherer and Alter, 2004] focuses on IS risk factors and how these factors can be organized.
This article starts by identifying criteria for …
