Researchers from many fields have used statistical tools to make sense of large bodies of text. Many tools support quantitative analysis of documents within a corpus, but relatively few studies have examined statistical characteristics of whole corpora. Statistical summaries of whole corpora and comparisons between corpora have potential application in the analysis of topically organized applications such social media platforms. In this study, we created matrix representations of several corpora and examined several statistical tests to make comparisons between pairs of corpora with respect to the topical homogeneity of documents within each corpus. Despite the threat counterfeit drugs represent to health and the government’s endeavor to discourage their consumption, some people in Benin still prefer buying medicine in the underground economy. This research purported to understand the causes of the phenomenon. The research method used a survey of a sample of sixty-eight people randomly selected at Cotonou, a city with a population representative of Benin general population status regarding socio-economic conditions. Tourism is an important economic activity which, when it thrives, can improve the wellbeing of the residents of a tourist destination. This research explores the direct and indirect impacts of tourism on the economic wellbeing of the area’s residents. The findings are that tourism can enhance the wellbeing of the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan by providing job opportunities and increasing current income. Furthermore, the local residents can participate in tourism activities and earn their living by providing goods and services.

Within military families, military spouse employment also positively impacts service member retention. Like their civilian counterparts, military spouses often want and need to work. But, unlike most civilians, military spouses may relocate overseas where their employment options are influenced by diplomatic agreements called Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs). As a result, SOFAs may present unanticipated and sometimes insurmountable barriers to military spouses who wish to work after relocating overseas. This paper gives insights to the military spouse as well as their employer.

The city of Syracuse in New York announced an ambitious smart city plan which, when fully implemented, promises to make it the most connected city in the northeastern US. Large companies understand the value of having a diverse supplier base that aligns with their diverse customer base. This creates opportunities for veteran-owned businesses (VOBs) as many larger companies are looking for VOBs to bring on as suppliers. Surprisingly, the biggest challenge that many of these companies face is identifying VOBs that fit a certain geographic or business need and have the ability to perform the work required. This paper describes how veterans report financing their businesses, their potential difficulties accessing capital, and the potential reasons they may encounter credit and loan denials. We conclude with a discussion on the possible implications and put forward a preliminary argument for further study that would explore some of the more nuanced aspects of access to capital barriers. This paper details an exemplar case of partnership and philanthropic engagement, positioned to fundamentally transform the means and expectations associated with the employment transition experience for veterans. The vehicle for this transformation is an innovative transition initiative called Onward to Opportunity (O2O). The design, development, and evolution of the O2O program has been supported by early investment and prolonged commitment on the part of philanthropic partners—led by the Schultz Family Foundation—alongside close collaboration with JPMorgan Chase & Co. as well as other public sector and employer partners. This research brief presents key highlights on recent veteran participation in the STEM workforce drawing upon an analysis of the American Community Survey (2012-2016), led by the U.S. Census Bureau. From this data, the research team examined veteran participation across 49 distinct STEM occupations, which are grouped into the following five occupational clusters: Engineering, Information Technology and Computer Science, Life and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Supervisor/ Management of STEM occupations. Among other analyses, the research team identified year-over-year trends in veteran participation, geographic distribution, and comparisons to non-veterans across all STEM occupations.

Given that we have had historic increases in inequality, as well as stagnant poverty levels for several decades, I will tell the story of poverty and inequality in the U.S. from the perspective of the metrics of happiness and well-being.
