Exploring The Relationship Between Work Engagement And Psychological Contract Fulfillment In Health Care Organization-Employed Physicians, Oyebanjo Olowe Mar 2021

Exploring The Relationship Between Work Engagement And Psychological Contract Fulfillment In Health Care Organization-Employed Physicians, Oyebanjo Olowe

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

ABSTRACT

While physician employment by healthcare organizations (HCO) in the United States continues to rise and private practice ownership continues to decline, many physicians are disengaged and leaving their organization as their job expectations are not fulfilled. Concurrently, some are changing practice patterns that may lead to decreased access to care despite the forecasted shortage of 84,900 fewer physicians and the aging US population's project growth by 2033. Prior work on physician work engagement has been practitioner-based, never using the widely accepted validated Utrecht work engagement scale. Also, there has been little work on psychological contract fulfillment (PCF ) in …

If The Slipper Fits: The Relationship Between A Cinderella Appearance In The Ncaa Division I Men’S Basketball Tournament And Institutional Financial And Admissions Factors, Kelly A. Childs

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This study examined the relationship between a non-Power Five Cinderella team in the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament and institutional financial and admissions factors. The purpose of this study was to examine what, if anything, changes for a non-Power Five school who makes the March Madness tournament as compared to those similar schools who do not. This was a unique study because it looks at the variables of percent admitted, applications, enrollment, SAT/ACT, and donations together, different from the current body of research which has looked at many of these institutional factors separately. Additionally, many of these studies are …

A Study Of Transformational Leadership Practices To Police Officers' Job Satisfaction And Organizational Commitment, John P. Decker

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This study is based upon Bass and Riggio’s (2006) Augmentation Model on Transactional and Transformational Leadership, in which this quantitative study sought to identify the amount of variance in police officer job satisfaction and organizational commitment that can be explained by police chiefs’ transformational leadership behaviors above and beyond the influence of transactional behaviors. A total of 166 police officers were surveyed in five central New Jersey police departments in relation to their job satisfaction and organizational commitment, as well as the leadership behaviors in which their police chiefs engaged, utilizing Bass and Avolio’s (2004) Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X). This …

Marching On Together: The Future Of Non-Profit Museums In A For-Profit World, Matthew R. Dellaguzzo May 2018

Marching On Together: The Future Of Non-Profit Museums In A For-Profit World, Matthew R. Dellaguzzo

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This thesis proposes a model of increased collaboration among museums as an alternative to the commercialization of the museum field. Through a combination of internal and external factors, museums are finding it necessary to operate in a manner akin to that of commercial enterprises. This trend threatens to undermine the cultural and educational mission of museums. At the same time, the ability of museums to carry out their missions necessarily depends on a solid financial base. Collaboration, whether in the form of consortia or consolidated institutions, provides an avenue whereby museums can not only make more economical use of their …

The Influence Of Age, Work Experience, Education Level, And Score On A Standardized Pre-Employment Competency Exam On The Outcome Of A Pre-Employment Polygraph Exam, David M. Torres

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This study examined the influence of age, work experience, education level, and score on a standardized pre-employment competency exam on the outcome of a pre-employment polygraph exam. Due to the strict selection requirements and competitive nature of sensitive government and public safety positions, organizations compete in the costly endeavor to hire qualified applicants efficiently and effectively. As these organizations fail to meet the required hiring levels, their responsibilities in public and national security cannot be carried out. This study was conducted in an effort to reduce the time and financial resources an organization must appropriate on applicants that cannot successfully …

Unconscious Bias During Recruitment Of New Hires-A Comparison Of The General Public And Human Resource Professionals, Diane Ellen Russo

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Immediate decisions are required in various situations. Judgements are made based on a variety of influences without even realizing it has occurred. Decisions are made within split seconds, and the outcomes are often a result of biases held.

Biases can be positive or negative; they are attitudes or stereotypes that are taught during an early age in life and reinforced over time. It is important to realize how these biases impact decision making and negative judgements placed on others.

Bias begins around the time one has the ability to understand and speak words -- generally at three years old. At …

Storytelling In Art Museums, Hayley P. Trinkoff May 2015

Storytelling In Art Museums, Hayley P. Trinkoff

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Storytelling, in the context of art museums, is a method of communicating the qualities and attributes of art through a story. It helps the visitor bring the work of art to life and understand something the eye cannot see, a compelling narrative. It is important for visitors to discuss art and share stories on tours and through virtual media. We learn and form our own meanings from stories. These interactions will help build more relationships within communities. It is the museum’s job to take visitors on a journey and introduce them to new objects and perspectives.

This thesis addresses what …

An Investigation Of The Relationships Between And Among Power, Trust And Job Satisfaction Of Nurse Managers In Acute Care Hospitals Using Rogers Science Of Unitary Human Beings, Maureen A. Schneider May 2015

An Investigation Of The Relationships Between And Among Power, Trust And Job Satisfaction Of Nurse Managers In Acute Care Hospitals Using Rogers Science Of Unitary Human Beings, Maureen A. Schneider

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background: Defined as control and freedom, power is often characterized as hierarchical. Power-as-freedom exists as a unitary manifestation of the whole and is acausal. Thus a worldview that emphasizes mutual process rather than a causal (control) view supports a culture of trust in the healthcare environment that generates a committed and a thriving work force. When nurse leaders support a climate of trust, managers develop a sense of commitment to the organization which may lead to job satisfaction. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence supporting the relationship between power, trust and job satisfaction among nurse managers.

Purpose: The …

Addressing The Challenges Of Cross-Cultural And Virtual Communication In The Workplace, Sarabjit Sundar Dec 2013

Addressing The Challenges Of Cross-Cultural And Virtual Communication In The Workplace, Sarabjit Sundar

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

The move toward a more global or geographically dispersed organization, together with the technology that is being used to enable this, has dramatically changed work and the workplace in the United States and United Kingdom within the last few decades (Ouye, 2011). This is prompting leaders to communicate with teams consisting of vastly different backgrounds, languages and styles, and to essentially ‘work at the same table’ in the absence of physical cues, such as facial expressions and gestures. Leaders of such teams are challenged to create a smooth operation despite the many differences; the possibilities for misunderstandings and cultural blunders …

Museum Collections Management Systems: One Size Does Not Fit All, Elana C. Carpinone May 2010

Museum Collections Management Systems: One Size Does Not Fit All, Elana C. Carpinone

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Collections management software companies claim their product can be used for any type of collection or museum. While this is true to some extent, in actuality, they are better suited for some types of collections and do not cover the others as well. Particular collections management databases have aspects that are better suited for certain types of collections and an individual museum's needs. Each system's particular combination of features and characteristics may make it a better fit for some museums' needs and not for others. Recommendations for collections databases are constantly sought after on the American Association of Museum's Registrar's …

Pioneering Partnerships: The Role Of The Independent And Non-Traditional Collections Manager In The Museum World, Erin K. Schovel

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Museums are increasingly following for-profit business models. Downsizing, partnering and outsourcing are no longer exclusive business terms, but have been adopted into museum lingo. As museums large and small adapt to decreased funding, they look for ways to stretch their dollars further. Museums are finding value in outsourcing work to independent professionals who are knowledgeable in museum practices. The available literature on museum outsourcing focuses on guest curators. Little is written about other categories of non-affiliated museum professionals on which museums rely, such as fundraisers, public relations officers, and, especially, collections managers. I am particularly interested in non-affiliated museum workers …

Regulation Fair Disclosure And Its Effect On Corporate Information: A Checkup On A Controversial Rule & Content Analysis Of Hewlett-Packard News Release Habits, Michael E. Maguire

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

On October 23, 2000, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) instituted Regulation Fair Disclosure (Reg FD), which mandated that all public companies give stock-moving information to all investors simultaneously. What seems simple in concept has actually been difficult for many companies to interpret and has resulted in some falling victim to sanctions from the SEC. Siebel Systems, ImClone Systems, Tyco International, Adelphia Communications and Raytheon are some examples of companies who have recently engaged in corporate fraud that has misled investors. Reg FD is in existence today to stop companies from hand-picking who gets their news first. This study will …

The Importance Of Icons For Corporate Identity For Start-Up Companies, Jillian K. Dunn Jan 2006

The Importance Of Icons For Corporate Identity For Start-Up Companies, Jillian K. Dunn

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

The objective of this research project is to look at the importance of icons, more specifically logos, for corporate identity in start-up companies, and why these logos are such a significant factor in the marketing of a company to its consumers. A logo's main purpose is to "project the company's intended image" (First Town Company Unlimited, 2000, p.1) and if properly completed then the logo becomes a significant part of the consumer/producer relationship. "The corporate identity dates back to Ancient Greece" and "hundreds of years later, it [ still] remains the vital aspect of any organization's identity; Logos offer a …
