The purpose of this study is to identify and comparatively assess the quality of information security specific publishing venues. Past studies in information systems and computer science have shown that information security-focused research can be published in mainstream information systems- and computer science-centric periodicals; however no studies to date have been found that specifically compared venues focused primarily on information security. Therefore the results of this study, when combined with assessments of publishing venues from those disciplines, can provide a more comprehensive perspective on publishing opportunities for academic authors in information security. Cross-Generational Perspectives On Work-Life Balance And Its Impact, D. Roebuck, D. N. Smith, T. El Haddaoui

This qualitative study focuses on how women of three different generations, Generation Y, Generation X and Baby Boomers, view the concept of work-life balance and what relationship these views have to their attainment of workplace leadership positions. Work-life balance was defined differently across the three generations, but the generational lines faded as most women reported struggling with finding a balance. Some women conveyed choosing not to pursue high-level leadership positions as the personal cost was too high. Those who had obtained high-level leadership positions shared what types of support were most effective in helping them juggle personal and professional obligations. …

As coastal production costs in China rise, producers are moving inland to remain competitive with other Asian countries. As a result, Chinese sea ports are rapidly developing dry (i.e., inland) ports to compete for hinterland access. Yet the growing body of research examining dry ports has yet to analyze China. This article fills this gap by combining practitioner interviews, publicly available data, and industry and academic literature to provide an overview of dry ports in China. In this exploratory study we investigate differences in perception between management and staff with regard to overall information security risk management and human resources security risk management at two Fortune 500 companies. This study is part of a much larger study with regard to organizational information security issues. Developing Business Acumen In Chinese Business School Graduates, Rajaram Veliyath, B. Stivers, T. Joyce, J. Hair

This study assessed the importance of knowledge, skills, abilities (i.e., KSAs) and competencies for managerial success in China’s market economy. Business students at a major Chinese university were surveyed over a five year period, initially in 2001 and later in 2006, five years after China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Using Partial Least Squares (PLS), the explained variances in business acumen and social motivation skills were higher after China’s WTO entry. The results were reversed for communication skills. The results confirmed the predictive relevance of entrepreneurial behavior and adaptability in the model. Overall, the results suggest an enhanced …

Speaking Up: A Conceptual Model Of Voice Responses Following The Unfair Treatment Of Others In Non-Union Settings, Caren B. Goldberg, Mark A. Clark, Amy B. Henley

Bridging the literature of procedural justice, social identification, and voice, we present a conceptual model of observers' voice responses to injustices perpetrated on coworkers. Based on social identity theory, we contend that similarity to the target of injustice influences observer identification with the target, as moderated by the observer's scope of justice, which then influences the observer's perceptions of injustice and decision to express voice. Additionally, we posit that the link between observers' perceptions of injustice and expressed voice is moderated by the observer's perceived opportunity to express voice. Globalization has led to increased use of international work teams comprised of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Beliefs and values of individuals affect the working of such groups, so it is important to understand these differences. The aim of this paper is to understand the cultural and diversity perceptions of IT workers specifically of Indian descent. Two instruments, namely the Diversity Perceptions Index and Hofstede Value survey, were used to collect data.
