Harrison Price Company (HPC) was retained in December 1986 to organize and carry out a charrette conference directed at defining an optimum concept and economic potential for Adventure America, a commercial attraction to be developed in Washington, DC. The goal of the client was to offer an attraction developed on the immense historical and governmental thematic base of this great city. The project is aimed directly at the millions of visitors who come each year to the Nation's capital.

Tourism is the largest industry in the state of Florida and especially large in Central Florida. In 1985, close to 30 million domestic and international tourists visited the state. These visitors purchased goods and services worth $19 billion. The Florida Division of Tourism estimated that in 1985, Central Florida was one of the most popular destinations in the State, hosting 23% of auto visitors arrivals and 19% of air visitors arrivals. Central Florida attractions have always been very popular: In 1985, Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom and EPCOT Center accounted for over 50% of Florida's air and auto attraction visitors. …

This paper deals with tourism in the Chattanooga area. It has three main focuses. First, a profile is developed for the typical visitor and his or her economic impact in the local economy. Second, the travel industry in Chattanooga is studied by an analysis of several reports compiled by Carrier & Associates for the Lookout Mountain Attractions . Third, two questionnaires are developed and tested for use by the attractions.

Gibraltar Community Builders owns a 52-acre site on the southeast corner of the intersection between Interstate Highway 5 (IH-5) and California State Highway 12 (Cal 12) about 12 miles north of Stockton in San Joaquin County, California. There is a truck stop (service station and restaurant) located immediately adjacent to IH-5 and there is considerable traffic by the site (estimated at 23.3 million people for 1987). The purpose of the focus group sessions was to identify major areas of concern among experienced travel agents both in Orlando and New York. In particular, the discussions focused on the travel agents' experiences with the sale of tour packages and their relationships with tour operators.
