K-Pop Or K-Death? The Mirrored Oppression From Hollywood In The 1930s, Molly Welsh
K-Pop Or K-Death? The Mirrored Oppression From Hollywood In The 1930s, Molly Welsh
Student Scholar Symposium Abstracts and Posters
In the 1930s, the film industry in Hollywood set the standard of “Hollywood filmmaking” with its development of star-contracts so oppressive, actors would be trapped for years within them. However, the implications of creating such a star-system have far surpassed what William Hays believed he was doing in the 1930s. In South Korea, a big star-system still exists and in many ways, mirrors what the United States did in the 1930s. What is informally known as “K-Pop” is a label for the music industry that seeks to emulate western ideals not only in looks, but in practice. This system allows …

Adolescent volunteers were administered quantitative questionnaires utilizing the Contact with Disabled Persons Scale (CDP) and the Multi-Dimensional Attitude Scale (MAS). Collected data were used to determine the efficacy of involvement in an inclusive recreation program on adolescent participants' attitudes toward disability. Specifically, this study examined how attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control influence motivation to achieve a higher GPA. Furthermore, ethnic identity, family obligation and cultural values were examined as potential contributors to subjective norms. The sample consisted of 70 Polynesian football student-athletes at 10 U.S. D1 universities. Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to compare marital satisfaction among serious leisure participants in partner dancing and their spouses based on their participation patterns in dance (both dancers or only one dancer), with covariates of spousal support, satisfaction with leisure, and leisure-family conflict. This study not only found a significant relationship between marital satisfaction and participation patterns for dancers (participating together β =.2125), but the averages for joint and individual participation patterns fell on either side of the non-distressed versus distressed cut-off score for marital satisfaction, suggesting that participation in a serious leisure activity, like partner dancing, without your …

How Can Consumer Preferences Be Leveraged For Targeted Upselling In Cable Tv Services?, Bing Tian Dai
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Internet TV has attracted a significant amount of attention from the conventional cable TV service providers, by providing customized TV programs at preferred time slots. The cable TV service providers are seeking to retain their customers by giving them a better experience: by understanding their customers’ preferences and upselling them the right products to cater to their interests. It is not easy to understand customer preferences though, since customers are not able to watch channels to which they have not subscribed. This makes it difficult to predict what they will like to watch, as a result. In this paper, I …
