Over the past two months, a USD project team conducted extensive research to inform the strategic planning process of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation (RSFF). The team identified three key questions that will be important for the RSFF to address as it positions itself for growth. Those questions are: 1) What is the identity of the RSFF, both internally and externally; 2) How should the RSFF define community; and 3) How should the RSFF define growth?

In January 2009, a team of students from the University of San Diego’s (USD) Nonprofit Leadership and Management conducted a pre-planning exercise to help prepare the San Diego Natural History Museum (SDNHM) for its 2012-2022 strategic plan. With an annual attendance last year of more than 600,000 visitors, the Museum is one of the largest cultural institutions in Balboa Park. The consulting team engaged in an extensive discovery process, including a review of the Museum’s current strategic plan1 and preliminary key informant interviews. In January 2007, a group of USD graduate students in Nonprofit Leadership and Management, selected a San Diego museum for their applied project. The USD team's purpose was to collect data that would be useful to the museum in its strategic planning process and to provide the client with two products: a Plan-to-Plan and this final report.
