This study characterized the growth of bacteria isolated from ballast tank fluids in hexadecane, petroleum, plant, and algae-derived fuels. The study was performed to explore the capacity of ballast tank isolates to survive and grow within fuels that may be stored within ballast tanks. Results of the hexadecane analysis indicated that most isolates had higher viable cell counts in media supplemented with hexadecane. Members of Alteromonas, Pseudoalteromonas, and a single Brevundimonas species had viable cell counts that were one or several orders ofmagnitude greater than that of controls. Rising costs of healthcare have motivated employers to offer comprehensive health promotion programs to their employees, to reduce health risk factors such as physical inactivity, poor nutrition, high stress, etc., thereby lowering both direct (i.e., medical) costs and indirect (i.e., absenteeism) costs. As a result of their role in the athletes’ recovery, athletic trainers should have an understanding of the many aspects involved in the psychological effect of an injury, and how to assist an athlete in their psychological recovery. This includes the components of injury, factors affecting recovery, psychosocial intervention strategies, counseling, and referral. A four week depth jump training program was conducted to determine if there is a significant difference between bounce drop Jump technique and counter drop jump technique in improving leg power as measured by vertical jumping height. Eleven college females, age 18 to 21, involved in the sport of volleyball and basketball served as subjects in this investigation. Following pre-testing, the subjects were assigned to one of two treatment groups based on the sports they played. Both groups participated in the training two sessions per week. The psychotherapeutic environment is changing. Pressure from outside the profession is motivating changes that are resulting in cost cutting and cost containment. Health management organizations and preferred provider organizations are beginning to control third party payment to mental health providers. This is counselling the profession to reevaluate and remodel how it performs therapy as numbers of sessions become more limited. Therapy is changing from a long lasting relationship with a therapist, in which personality transformation is sought for the client, to forms of brief therapy in which only problems and solutions, arising from the immediate issues, are focused on.
