Conflict Resolution In A Multi-Level It-Enabled Outsourcing Network: A Structured Solution Approach, Shreekant Vijaykar, Mahesh Gupta Prof., Pradip Kumar Bhaumik Dr.

Journal of International Technology and Information Management

Using the case study of an Indian Technology and Outsourcing Service Provider, SmartKey (real but renamed company), a technology vendor to a global healthcare provider, this paper analyses offshore outsourcing issues using IT-enabled services to gain deeper insights needed to understand the core conflict and propose a well-reasoned solution approach. Reasoning, the conscious thought process leading to a well-justified decision, is an important managerial skill required for making dynamic decisions, resolving conflicts, and thereby developing human resources. This paper explores Goldratt’s Evaporating Clouds (ECs) as a systematic approach to reasoning in particular, and as a system for developing human resource …

A Systems View Of Is Governance And It Governance: A Case Study Of The Virginia Department Of Transportation, Bernard Farkas Jan 2017

A Systems View Of Is Governance And It Governance: A Case Study Of The Virginia Department Of Transportation, Bernard Farkas

Theses and Dissertations

A review of the research related to Information Technology (IT) governance reveals that researchers have yet to use systems theory directly as a basis for understanding IT governance; however, analysis of these researchers’ various definitions of IT governance shows a concurrence between these definitions and the characteristics of a system. This case study research adopts a systems imagination to observe IS and IT governance in the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), which has a budget of over $5 billion and over 7,500 employees and has recently conducted a strategic assessment of its IT organization - including IS and IT governance. …

The Restech Connections Cd Project: A Case Study On The Social Construction Of Risk, Jason Koch, Jack T. Marchewka Jan 2015

The Restech Connections Cd Project: A Case Study On The Social Construction Of Risk, Jason Koch, Jack T. Marchewka

Communications of the IIMA

Risk management is an important component in understanding and managing information technology (IT) projects. The traditional view of risk management focuses on a three-stage process: identifying risk, assessing risk, and developing a strategy for dealing with each risk. This, unfortunately, may give project stakeholders a false sense of security. Although the application of risk management philosophies, techniques, tools, and methods to managing IT projects is not new, the idea of viewing risk as a social construction outlines a new paradigm for understanding and managing risk. Since the idea of a social construction view of risk has been introduced only recently, …

A Performance Measurement Framework For It Service Management, Francis Gacenga Dr. Jun 2013

A Performance Measurement Framework For It Service Management, Francis Gacenga Dr.

Francis Gacenga Dr.

The use of Information Technology (IT) has become more pervasive and, progressively, there has been a shift from a technology focus to a service focus in managing IT. The performance measurement of IT service management (ITSM) is a major challenge faced by organisations adopting best practice frameworks. The extensive adoption of ITSM frameworks by organisations may point to the acceptance by IT service managers that best practice frameworks such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) and standards such as ISO/IEC 20000 can deliver real operational efficiencies, ultimately translating into business benefits. Some organisations implementing ITSM initiatives have reported realisation of …

The Challenge Of Implementing An Erp System In A Small And Medium Enterprise – A Teaching Case Of Erp Project Management, Hongjiang Xu, Patrick J. Rondeau, Sakthi Mahenthiran

Scholarship and Professional Work - Business

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system implementation projects are notoriously risky. While large-scale ERP cases continue to be developed, relatively few new ERP cases have been published that further ERP implementation education in small to medium size firms. This case details the implementation of a new ERP system in a medium sized manufacturing firm. As students explore the case, they will be required to address the many ERP-related project management, procurement, human resource, and management involvement issues raised by it. This case highlights the ERP implementation problems experienced by case company in one of their two divisions. The firm is considering …

Achieving Solution Success: An Investigation Of User Participation Approaches, Angela Mattia Apr 2009

Achieving Solution Success: An Investigation Of User Participation Approaches, Angela Mattia

Theses and Dissertations

User participation and its relationship to system success have been discussed in the information systems (IS) literature from many theoretical and practical perspectives. In reality, most of this discussion is grounded in empirical research that has yielded mixed results on the importance of user participation and its relationship to system success. The goal of this dissertation is to extend the line of inquiry into user participation during information system development by providing information systems researchers and IS practitioners with both a valid theoretical and practical investigation of a successful IS solution. This investigation organizes the study within a descriptive model …

A key achievement marking the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler’s movement toward Electronic Health Records (EHR) is the establishment of an integrated results reporting capability.
