Public Healthcare: Changes Introduced When Implementing E-Procurement, Tommaso Federici Oct 2006

Public Healthcare: Changes Introduced When Implementing E-Procurement, Tommaso Federici

Federici Tommaso

The large and growing size of the healthcare public spending for goods and services worries the institutions of many European countries, including Italy, and asks for rationalization initiatives. In parallel, e-procurement solutions spread into Public Administrations (PA's) and introduce innovative processes, primarily in the purchasing phase.

In this scenario, e-procurement has the potential to enable significant efficiency improvements in the public healthcare sector, with the reduction of purchasing and administrative costs. However, most e-procurement initiatives met difficulties and did not fully delivered the expected benefits so far. This is mainly due to the healthcare procurement complexity, specific characteristics and peculiar …

Serviceorientierte Architekturen: Vom Konzept Zum Einsatz In Der Praxis, Roger Heutschi, Christine Legner, Hubert Oesterle

Hubert Oesterle

Case Study Röhm Gmbh & Co. Kg - Consignment Depot Between Degussa Business Unit “Röhm“ And Basf Coatings Ag, Enrico Senger, Hubert Oesterle

Hubert Oesterle

Röhm produces special plastics, for, among others, the paint industry. In collaboration with BSAF Coatings, Röhm developed an extended Vendor Managed Inventory system that operates a consignment depot, takes on the actual and exact filling of tanks at the customer locations via telemetrics as well as advance forecasts, and passes on quality-related information to designated recipients, and includes the electronic billing of deliveries. The early access to data relevant to the planning process and process simplifications compensated for the additional operating costs. The closer relationship with the customer and their processes, as in the case of L’Oréal, is considered to …

Global Data Synchronization – Hype Oder Lösung Für Das Überbetriebliche Produktstammdatenmanagement Zwischen Konsumgüterindustrie Und Handel?, Jan Schemm, Christine Legner, Hubert Oesterle May 2006

Global Data Synchronization – Hype Oder Lösung Für Das Überbetriebliche Produktstammdatenmanagement Zwischen Konsumgüterindustrie Und Handel?, Jan Schemm, Christine Legner, Hubert Oesterle

Hubert Oesterle

Knowledge Creation: Revisiting The 'Ba' Humbug: People And 'Latent' Knowledge In Organizational Learning, Donald Nordberg Mar 2006

Knowledge Creation: Revisiting The 'Ba' Humbug: People And 'Latent' Knowledge In Organizational Learning, Donald Nordberg

Donald Nordberg

This paper is a draft of an article that appeared in the Icfai Journal of Knowledge Management in 2007. Knowledge management theory has struggled with the concept of knowledge creation. Since the seminal article of Nonaka in 1991, an industry has grown up seeking to capture the knowledge in the heads and hearts of individuals so as to leverage them for organizational learning and growth. But the SECI process of socialization, externalization, combination and internalization outlined by Nonaka and his colleagues has dealt essentially with knowledge transfer rather than creation. This paper looks at attempts to fill the gap in …

Development Of A Design Environment For End Users To Build The Target-Relevant Decision Support Tools In Rural Industry, Shah Jahan Miah Jan 2006

Development Of A Design Environment For End Users To Build The Target-Relevant Decision Support Tools In Rural Industry, Shah Jahan Miah

Dr Shah Jahan Miah

Decision support systems (DSS) developed by end users have had limited success in rural operations. This paper will discuss the development stages of a new tool for improving the DSS development process in the rural industries. The object of this project is to develop an end user enabled design environment (EUEDE) which will allow a non-technical computer user to build target-relevant decision support tools. The resultant design environment aims to allow the end user to re-use and share their knowledge within a specific business context. This approach will facilitate flexibility to build relevant DSS’s for an end user’s specific decision …

E-Contracting: Towards It-Enabled Collaboration Processes In Contract Management, Jan Schemm, Christine Legner, Hubert Oesterle Jan 2006

E-Contracting: Towards It-Enabled Collaboration Processes In Contract Management, Jan Schemm, Christine Legner, Hubert Oesterle

Hubert Oesterle

E-contracting implies pre-order electronic interaction between customers and suppliers engaging in business transactions. This paper examines electronic contracting from an interorganizational perspective. It derives a collaboration process architecture for contracting in retail and industrial companies and outlines key design decisions concerning a process-supporting system architecture. A case from the retail industry illustrates major problems with paper-based contracting processes currently practiced by most companies and emphasizes the usefulness and applicability of the developed framework in industrial practice. Finally, we present a research agenda towards a holistic framework providing support for retail and industry companies in deploying e-contracting solutions.

Trading In The Australian Stockmarket Using Artificial Neural Networks, Bruce Vanstone Jan 2006

Trading In The Australian Stockmarket Using Artificial Neural Networks, Bruce Vanstone

Bruce Vanstone

This thesis focuses on training and testing neural networks for use within stockmarket trading systems. It creates and follows a well defined methodology for developing and benchmarking trading systems which contain neural networks.

Four neural networks and consequently four trading systems are presented within this thesis. The neural networks are trained using all fundamental or all technical variables, and are trained on different segments of the Australian stockmarket, namely all ordinary shares, and the S&P/ASX200 constituents.

Three of the four trading systems containing neural networks significantly outperform the respective buy-and-hold returns for their segments of the market, demonstrating that neural …
