The rapid expansion in assets managed by the Australian managed fund industry has resulted in it becoming a major sector of the financial system, second only to that of the banking industry. With more than A$550 billion invested in the industry investors should be concerned about the lack of reliable information available in regard to equity style management. In particular investors should be concerned about the probable mis-match between stated objectives and the actual objectives pursued by fund managers.
