Corporate social responsibility (CSR) positively impacts performance and profitability for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Small and medium-sized enterprise leaders are reluctant to engage in CSR activities because of the assumed high-cost implication and possible impairment of profitability. Grounded in social capital theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between workforce-based CSR activities, society-based CSR activities, market-based CSR activities, regulation-based CSR activities, and SMEs’ business profitability.
