Home Fare Advantage: An Examination Of The Role Of Food And Beverages In Mercedes-Benz Stadium’S Event Experience, Mark A. Slavich, Gregg Rich, Dylan Williams
Journal of Applied Sport Management
Through the lens of Expectation Disconfirmation Theory and with consideration of other event experience factors, our study examines how strategic concessions changes implemented by the Arthur M. Blank (AMB) Group with the building of Mercedes-Benz Stadium affect the fan experience at its professional sport events. These changes differ significantly from operational practices at most sport venues, with emphasis on eliminating bottlenecks to increase throughput and allowing for reduced costs without negatively affecting quality. Data were collected through an online survey of Atlanta United match attendees and an online observation. Results from this study suggest that management prioritization of concession services …

Antecedents And Consequences Of Conspicuous Sport Consumption, Yukyoum Kim, Sun Hwan Hwang, Marshall Magnusen
Journal of Applied Sport Management
Conspicuous consumption is when consumers acquire luxury goods and services to help publicly demonstrate their desired economic and social status. Even though conspicuous consumption can help individuals experience social distinction and a heightened sense of self-esteem, much still needs to be known about this occurrence in the context of sport. Accordingly, the focus of this study was to examine antecedents (i.e., Expertise and Self-esteem) and outcomes (i.e., Satisfaction and Subjective Well-being) of conspicuous consumption of upscale sport goods. An empirical study was conducted with cyclists (n = 393). The research model was analyzed using simultaneous equations analysis. Expertise was shown …

Education has become the largest advertiser, according to estimates, with a large chunk of that money going toward enhancing the industry’s reputation. Due to the introduction of WTO rules, management education is becoming more competitive, and the Indian market is now open to foreign competitors as well, B schools in India are anticipating what would please their customers. The high number of applicants taking the CAT exam this year shows how popular management education is becoming. This survey was conducted to analyze the general job satisfaction and compensation trend and create a national benchmarking report for salary and other benefits that faculty members receive in the U.S. Some may say job satisfaction is an elusive, even mythical concept, and an abundance of research has been dedicated towards it. The current report mainly focused on job satisfaction amongst academic staff in the U.S. We were particularly interested in understanding both the general level of satisfaction and different factors that seemed to account for satisfaction and dissatisfaction. In addition, we were interested to see if there was any …

Volunteer Motivations, Satisfaction, And Future Intent: A Comparative Analysis Between Student-Athletes And Service-Learning Students, Tiesha R. Martin, Mark Slavich, Jennifer L. Gellock
Journal of Athlete Development and Experience
Developing socially responsible and civically engaged citizens has been a priority of higher education in the United States since its conception. As an extension of higher education, intercollegiate athletics has been tasked with the same objective. One method to accomplish this objective is student-athletes’ engagement in community service. With the growing amount of attention placed on community service, it is becoming increasingly important to understand student-athletes’ volunteer experiences, in order to help administrators better coordinate impactful service opportunities for student-athletes. Using functionalist theory as a framework, the purpose of this study was to assess student-athletes’ motivations to volunteer, satisfaction with …

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have attracted global audiences who desire to learn. However, the completion rate of these courses is less than 10 percent. Few studies have systematically researched the influence of expectation-confirmation theory (ECT) and user experience (e.g., flow experience, perceived interest) on user satisfaction of and the continuance intention to use MOOCs. The present study examines the drivers of MOOC satisfaction based on ECT and the influence of satisfaction on user behavior. A research model reflecting the relationships among confirmation, usefulness, interest, flow, satisfaction, and continuance intention to use, and intention to recommend was developed and tested …

Students' Perceived Value Of The Community College Experience: A Mixed Methods Study, Robin A. Duncan
Antioch University Dissertations & Theses
The purpose of this study was to explore students’ perceived value of their community college experience and its relationship to other factors often related to student persistence in college, namely satisfaction, academic quality, service quality, and engagement. The research was guided by three focused questions: How do students describe and define perceived value of community college; what components emerge from exploratory factor analysis of items designed to measure perceived value; and how, if at all, is a student’s perception of the value of a community college experience different from related measures such as satisfaction, engagement, or quality? Data were collected …

Companies have long recognized the importance of training and developing their managers to prepare them for their short- and long-term careers. Formal management-development programs and other less formal means of management development abound in the hospitality industry. Therefore, one may ask whether the entry-level managers for whom these programs are designed perceive them to be effective. The present study explores management-development practices, procedures, and techniques, and their effects on job satisfaction and organizational commitment

Thriving In The Political Sport Arena: Lmx As A Mediator Of The Political Skill– Career Success Relationship, Marshall Magnusen, Jun Woo Kim
Journal of Applied Sport Management
Organizational politics, be it in sport organizations or other business contexts, is an unavoidable aspect of work and life. Further, some individuals are better than others at navigating the political arena and advancing their careers. It is therefore important to understand what characteristics those individuals possess and how exactly those characteristics lead to desirable career outcomes. This study progresses the organizational behavioral sciences forward by examining the mediation effects of leader-member exchange (LMX) in the relationships between intern political skill and four career-related outcomes (career satisfaction, perceived external marketability, life satisfaction, and perceived effectiveness). This study examines the effect of sport involvement and fans’ beliefs about sponsorship on certain sponsorship outcomes in the context of professional basketball. Quantitative data were collected from a survey of 222 spectators attending a professional basketball game in Greece. A confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed to examine the validity of the scale. Overall, the examination of the structural parameters indicated that attitude towards sponsors was significantly predicted by sport involvement and beliefs about sponsorship, while it significantly predicted purchase intentions, word of mouth, and fans’ satisfaction from the use of sponsor’s products.

The success or failure of service-based organizations is determined in large part by consumers’ perceived value of those services. Value can be measured in terms of consumers’ perceived performance quality in comparison with the cost to consumers of purchasing the service. The ideal goal of service marketing organizations is to obtain and maintain a loyal base of delighted customers. Loyalty can be measured in terms of customer satisfaction, retention levels, and perception of service quality. In the higher education industry, private institutions compete for student enrollment with state-funded institutions on factors other than cost value. Standard quality and satisfaction survey …

Are National Exit Examinations Important For Educational Efficiency?, John H. Bishop
Are National Exit Examinations Important For Educational Efficiency?, John H. Bishop
John H Bishop
“This paper analyses effects of national or provincial exit examinations on education quality. On theoretical grounds, the paper argues that such examinations should increase high school achievement, particularly in examination subjects, and that teachers and students and parents and school administrators should focus more on academic achievement when making school-quality decisions. On the negative side, exit examinations may lead to a tendency to concentrate on learning facts, rather than understanding contexts.”
Some Thoughts On The Cost Effectiveness Of Graduate Education Subsidies, John H. Bishop
Some Thoughts On The Cost Effectiveness Of Graduate Education Subsidies, John H. Bishop
John H Bishop
[Excerpt] How much should doctorate training be subsidized? The answer proposed is, "Doctorate training should be subsidized to the extent and only to the extent that it produces externality or public benefits – i.e. benefits received by people other than the one receiving the diploma." This value judgment derives from three propositions: (1) In general, an adult knows better than anyone else what is best for himself; (2) the price (measured in both time and money) he is willing to pay for graduate education is the best measure of how much he values it relative to other offerings; and (3) …
