Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer And A Four-Year-Old: Lessons For Leadership & Life, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
Kimmel Education and Research Center: Faculty and Staff Publications
Last week while I was in the shower, my four-year-old daughter, Raquel, walked into the bathroom and asked me an interesting question. “Mom, why doesn’t anyone like Rudolph’s shiny red nose?” My daughter was supposed to be in bed sleeping. I am 99% sure she was lying in bed reflecting on her day.
Many nights I have quietly checked on her before going to bed myself only to find her talking to herself while she makes vivid hand gestures and motions. On this particular evening, her talk and gestures must have focused on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. After thinking about …

The Increasing World Population: A Call For Entrepreneurial Leadership & Innovation, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
Kimmel Education and Research Center: Presentations and White Papers
According to the United Nations, the world’s population hit 7 billion on October 31, 2011. The United Nations is projecting the world population to reach 9.3 billion by 2050. The new population landmark set off alarms in governments and organizations around the world. Most of the growth will occur in the poorest and least developed regions of the world, which already must work to resolve issues related to shortages of quality food, soil, air and water. Many people living in these countries also lack access to education, healthcare and global political capital. This white paper discusses the importance of innovation …

Redesigning A Capstone Class Using Simulations, Case Studies And Critical Thinking, Gordon Flanders, Tim Kober, David Ottolino
Business & Information Technology
A capstone class is the final activity for students as they complete their undergraduate requirements. Faculty in the Business and Information Technology Department at Montana Tech of The University of Montana determined to add more rigor to the capstone class that would better prepare students as they enter the work force. A student-engagement pedagogical method was selected over the traditional lecture model. Thirty-eight students completed the redesigned class and 100% of the students felt they were better prepared to move forward as they graduated from college and begin the next stage of their lives.

The "High 5" Elevator Pitch Worksheet, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
Kimmel Education and Research Center: Faculty and Staff Publications
Great elevator pitches are created to sell something in 30 seconds or less (the time it takes to go from the first floor to the top of the building in an elevator). Think broadly about how a great pitch can help you. Great pitches can be used to market or sell anything from yourself as an individual to your business or community. Great pitches are clear and compelling. They make memorable impressions of whatever you are pitching and create a foundation for building relationships, clients, sales and investments!

Personal Innovation Action Self-Coaching Tool: Success Vs. Failure, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
Kimmel Education and Research Center: Faculty and Staff Publications
Part of personal leadership and innovation is self-discovery. One of the first steps in the process of personal innovation is discovering and defining success and failure.
Cultures and nations around the world define success differently, and it is important for individuals to define their own version of success to live their best lives.
In order to unleash your true potential, become very aware of how you define success. Is it your definition? Or, is it the definition society or others have imposed upon you?
Rarely do we examine success in terms of personal fulfillment, happiness or joy. Maybe your success …

Conflict Management Education In Medicine: Considerations For Curriculum Designers, Jeffery Kaufman
Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development
It is important to address conflict in the medical field for a variety of reasons ranging from reducing turnover to increasing the quality of care received by patients. One way to assist with the management of medical conflict is by teaching resolution techniques to medical personnel. There is an opportunity for conflict management curriculum to address many of the issues facing physicians, administrators, staff and patients, however, it is also necessary for those developing that curriculum to understand the nature of the environment and appropriate conflict management tools to be used in that environment as part of the design process. …
The Importance Of Course Offerings On The Topic Of Environmental Sustainability At The University Of Rhode Island, Sarah Kane

For my project, I created a survey for University of Rhode Island students’ exploring their experiences and interest in course offerings on sustainability. I am distributing it to students through different mediums such as email, Facebook and in person. Through my analysis of the results, I am seeking some evidence about whether or not students at this institute feel that our school offers enough courses on this topic and whether or not students are interested in taking courses on this topic.
As a business major, I have taken several courses where we learned about surveying and analysis of the results. …

Who Calls The Shots In Dining Customer Service, Kendi Root
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Introduction:
Americans have become impatient with poor dining service standards. Some believe a depressed economy, lack of skilled labor, and even bad customers have contributed to a new epidemic (Kim & Chen, 2010). Bottom line, most paying customers probably prefer a pleasant service staff to an unpleasant one. Service staff with pleasant personalities and positive attitudes impact the customer experience and overall satisfaction (Ryan & Ployhart, 2003; Barrash, & Costen, 2008). Grandey in 2003 coined this “QSD” or quality service delivery.
Case Synopsis:
The case study depicts a critical service incident with a dining service encounter in an upscale, full …

Avatars, Blabberize, And Cell Phones: Abc's Of The Digital Age [Paper], Kay S. Gandy, Rebecca Stobaugh
School of Teacher Education Faculty Publications & Presentations
The Digital Age is revolutionizing education. Educators need to be well-trained on the variety of technology tools available. Technology tools captivate the interest of students and encourage high-levels of engagement. Often, the daily lives of students are rich in technology, while teachers lack the knowledge or skills to integrate technology into the curriculum. Two university teacher education professors will share innovative technology tools to enhance instruction. The tools were modeled in education courses for preservice teachers and transferred into K-12 classrooms. Technology tools included: Skype, PhotoPeach, Prezi, Blabberize, Xtranormal, Poll Everywhere (voting with cellphones), Tagxedo, GPS, and GIS. For example, …
