The Cost Of Big Data: Evaluating The Effects Of The European Union’S General Data Protection Regulation, Kara Rebecca White

EURēCA: Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement

In the 1990’s the World Wide Web was created, drastically changing the way we do business, communicate, and live our lives. Ten years later in the early 2000’s the dot com boom happened, and several years later, new technology giants emerged—like Amazon, Google, and Facebook. From this, we now face “big data” that promises to solve world problems, but has the potential to create turmoil and malfeasance. My research examines the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enacted in the EU in 2016 on firm value using Tobin’s Q and CARs. Using regression analyses, I observe that Tobin’s …

Amazon: A Maze Through China - An International Marketing Case Study, Hanane Goubil

Symposium of Student Scholars

Amazon is an e-commerce technology company best known for its fast delivering time and for being one of the tops of the big four technology companies in the United States. Despite its success in the U.S. and several countries abroad, it has struggled to succeed in China since 2004 where Alibaba and JD.com control 82% of the market. This is due to Amazon failing to compete with Alibaba and neglecting to acclimatize their online offers to appease Chinese customers’ preferences. An example of this is that Alibaba has its own payment system called Alipay, while Amazon had yet to include …

Within this research, I will focus on a number of customer attributes including demographics, services provided, payment methods, contract lengths, monthly charges, and tenure with the company. Considering how these attributes relate to one another will give me a better understanding of …

Modeling Real Time Prices For Energy Markets, Kyle Cohen, Erin Byrd, Nhi Nguyen, Khanh Nguyen Apr 2021

Modeling Real Time Prices For Energy Markets, Kyle Cohen, Erin Byrd, Nhi Nguyen, Khanh Nguyen

Showcase of Osprey Advancements in Research and Scholarship (SOARS)

Wholesale power markets operate as both “day-ahead” and “real-time” markets, where transactions for power are placed a day before flow and an hour before flow, respectively. This project focuses on comparing models for predicting the price of the real-time market, using the PJM region as a case study. The real-time market is notoriously more volatile than its day-ahead counterpart, so the ability to predict the price of power on an hourly basis is extremely valuable for making decisions such as when and where to transact and when to hedge against volatility. Additional variables considered include temperature, power demand (load), generation …
