The Consumer Choice Of E-Channels As A Purchasing Avenue: An Investigation Of The Communicative Aspects Of Information Qualtiy , Jaejoo Lim
All Dissertations
A conspicuous paradox is evident in the statistics concerning purchases over the internet. While a majority of the US population uses the internet to seek product information for purchasing decisions, less than two percent of actual retail sales occur on the Internet. To explain this small ratio of e-channel choice for purchase, a comprehensive model that extends DeLone and McLean's (2004) e-commerce success model was developed. The model centers on the importance of perceived information quality and its relationship to e-channel choice as a purchasing channel. Using the overarching theoretical frame of motivation, two questions were examined: (a) what influences …

The purpose of this study was to expand the field of work-life literature through the introduction of triciprocal enrichment model that examines work-, family-, and community-related support antecedents and satisfaction variables. The main objectives were to incorporate the concept of enrichment and the domain of community into the work-life research providing a more accurate portrayal of the myriad of ways that all three domains interact and affect one another.
Data from 202 respondents were collected, including information on their level of community involvement, their level of enrichment within work, family, and community, their satisfaction on the job, with their family, …
Technology And Social Anxieties, Attitudes And Behavioral Intentions Of Singaporeans Towards Using Self-Service Technology (Sst), Mukesh Kumar
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
The interactions between customers and service organizations, known as service encounters, have generally been between front-liner and consumers. Gradually however, these encounters are changing with the introduction of self-service facilities that are quickly replacing service staff. The use of self-service technology has seen an incredible amount of growth globally over the last few years. Self-service technologies are currently being used in more diverse ways for new services than once thought possible. The expenditure on self-service kiosks is expected to rise by 88% and the dollar value of transactions taking place through self-service technology should exceed 1.3 trillion by 2007 (Avery, …

Expatriate Training For The Hotel And Gaming Workforce: Don't Leave Home Without It, Chien Chien Serene Lim
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Globalization is fast becoming the new trend of the hospitality industry. It remains as a highly complex and controversial concept that is not a new phenomenon. Researchers have suggested that globalization is likely an irreversible forceful process that will change the face of businesses (Mrak, 2000). In the recent Global Relocation Trends Survey conducted annually by GMAC Global Relocation Services (2007), it was reported that more than two-thirds (69%) of the multinational corporations surveyed reported an increase to the number of international assignments. This is the highest percentage that was ever reported, with more companies (65%) indicating their intent in …

The resulting business plan, detailed event checklist and timeline will be a guiding tool when planning other charity events.
What And Why Of Technostress: Technology Antecedents And Implications, Ramakrishna Ayyagari
What And Why Of Technostress: Technology Antecedents And Implications, Ramakrishna Ayyagari
All Dissertations
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (2002) reports that, on average, individuals worked seven hours per week from home in addition to regular work hours. This is made possible by advances in information and communication technologies (ICTs). While the increasing workload is not unusual, it has been related to stress, including the relatively new phenomenon of stress induced by technologies (technostress). Academic literature, popular press and anecdotal evidence suggest that ICTs are responsible for increased stress levels in individuals. However, it is not very clear as to how or why ICTs create stress.
Prior research on technostress has been largely descriptive. …

Supply Chain Leadership, Charles Clifford Defee
Supply Chain Leadership, Charles Clifford Defee
Doctoral Dissertations
The complexity found in supply chains draws on the combined capabilities of multiple firms. Success in this environment requires the coordinated efforts of both a supply chain leader organization, and one or more supply chain follower organizations. Supply chain leadership has traditionally been ascribed to the most powerful, dominant organization in the supply chain. The theory of supply chain leadership presented in this dissertation redefines leadership in the supply chain context as a relationship between leader and followers described by the behaviors exhibited through each organization’s actions. The theoretical model was developed from literature in the leadership, logistics, and strategic …
Model Selection Techniques For Kernel-Based Regression Analysis Using Information Complexity Measure And Genetic Algorithms, Rui Zhang
Doctoral Dissertations
In statistical modeling, an overparameterized model leads to poor generalization on unseen data points. This issue requires a model selection technique that appropriately chooses the form, the parameters of the proposed model and the independent variables retained for the modeling. Model selection is particularly important for linear and nonlinear statistical models, which can be easily overfitted.
Recently, support vector machines (SVMs), also known as kernel-based methods, have drawn much attention as the next generation of nonlinear modeling techniques. The model selection issues for SVMs include the selection of the kernel, the corresponding parameters and the optimal subset of independent variables. …
Measuring The Impact Of Workplace Design On Training Transfer Relative To Other Organizational Factors, Terron L. Hillsman
Measuring The Impact Of Workplace Design On Training Transfer Relative To Other Organizational Factors, Terron L. Hillsman
Doctoral Dissertations
This ethnographic research extends the findings of an earlier study examining the impact of workplace design on training transfer. The study triangulates data and methods of inquiry through field observation, archival records, interviews, and a survey that was developed from the interview responses. Linking the earlier, more qualitative data and analysis with the latter, more quantitative data and analysis helped to extend several theoretical considerations. Purposeful sampling was used to identify participants who held nonacademic supervisory positions at a major land grant university. Participants had attended a performance review workshop and had been applying the learned skills for at least …
Robust And Misspecification Resistant Model Selection In Regression Models With Information Complexity And Genetic Algorithms, Yan Liu
Doctoral Dissertations
In this dissertation, we develop novel computationally effiient model subset selection methods for multiple and multivariate linear regression models which are both robust and misspecification resistant. Our approach is to use a three-way hybrid method which employs the information theoretic measure of complexity (ICOMP) computed on robust M-estimators as model subset selection criteria, integrated with genetic algorithms (GA) as the subset model searching engine.
Despite the rich literature on the robust estimation techniques, bridging the theoretical and applied aspects related to robust model subset selection has been somewhat neglected. A few information criteria in the multiple regression literature are robust. …
A Computer-Based Simulation Investigation Of Environment-Strategy Fit For Risk Management In Global Supply Chains, Ila Manuj
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the phenomenon of risk management in global supply chains. Drawing from logistics, supply chain management, operations management, economics, international business, and strategy literatures and a qualitative study, a comprehensive conceptual model of environment-strategy fit for risk management in global supply chains was developed. External environmental conditions comprising of supply and demand risks, four risk management strategies, namely hedging, assuming, postponement, and speculation, and a moderator in the form of a port disruption were chosen for further investigation. The model was quantitatively tested using a simulation.
The findings from this dissertation study reflect …
Internet Usage And State Sales Tax Competition, Mary E. Howard
Internet Usage And State Sales Tax Competition, Mary E. Howard
Doctoral Dissertations
This paper examines the influence of increasing access to the Internet and increasing online purchasing on sales tax competition among the states. Prior research indicates that the tax rates set by a state’s geographical neighbors influence the tax rate set by the home state. As consumers gain access to the Internet and begin to participate in online shopping, their opportunity cost to participate in cross-border shopping decreases and their “mobility” may increase due to the ease of purchasing from vendors lacking nexus in the consumer’s home state. Thus, states may begin to respond less to the sales tax changes of …

EMPA Capstones
Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2007 (9/11), there was widespread criticism of national security institutions. Management principles utilized by the agencies were included in such criticism, specifically failings attributed to organizational structures and processes, information-handling and analytical approaches. This research undertook to determine whether the management principles utilized by national security agencies prior to 9/11 were inconsistent with organizational management principles advocated in management literature.
The research results indicated that management principles used by the national security agencies prior to the attacks were not inconsistent with management principles advocated in the literature, and that there is no clear …
An Analysis Of The Anticipated Efficacy Of Providing Motivational Interviews To Multiple Dui Offenders In Order To Reduce Dui Recidivism In Sacramento County, Annmarie Boylan

Despite aggressive educational campaigns, stiff fines and jail time the incidence of DUI arrests or worse yet, DUI related accidents are on the rise. Sacramento County has the ominous distinction of having the highest rate of alcohol-involved accidents, injuries and deaths per capita in the State of California. (California Office of Traffic Safety, 2004)
In response to this problem, the Sacramento City Police Department and the Sacramento County's Sheriff’s Department will be piloting a program called the Behavior and Driving Safety Study Program. Beginning …
Valuation Effects Of Business Process Outsourcing: Making The Case For Selective Governance, Chaojie Duan
Valuation Effects Of Business Process Outsourcing: Making The Case For Selective Governance, Chaojie Duan
All Dissertations
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has grown in incidence and importance over the past few years. However, beyond some expository studies, academic research on this phenomenon is sparse. Further, studies on IT outsourcing have primarily used a transaction cost economics (TCE) lens, and largely neglected other key theoretical explanations of the outsourcing decision and performance. In this dissertation, we examine how process level variables (process value chain position, relational governance, and process maturity) affect the excess stock return of a company. Drawing on the value chain framework, TCE, the resource based view, and institutional perspectives, we present a research model and …

Doctoral Dissertations
Gaining competitive advantage in today’s fragmented markets is a powerful incentive for marketers to create superior customer value to. Multiple research streams were carried out to understand the meaning of customer value and determine the most effective ways to provide it. A review of the extant literature revealed that these research streams fall into in four different categories, namely cultural values of the customer, customer value as a trade off, customer value as a process, and customer value as an experience. This dissertation research focuses on the third path, which uses means-end theory to understand customer value by exploring the …
