Hybridization Of Dna By Sequential Immobilization Of Oligonucleotides At The Air-Water Interface, Murali Sastry, Vidya Ramakrishnan, Mrunalini Pattarkine, Anand Gole, K. N. Ganesh

Faculty Works

The hybridization of DNA by sequential electrostatic and hydrogen-bonding immobilization of single-stranded complementary oligonucleotides at the air-water interface with cationic Langmuir monolayers is demonstrated. The complexation of the single-stranded DNA molecules with octadecylamine (ODA) Langmuir monolayers was followed in time by monitoring the pressure-area isotherms. A large (and slow) expansion of the ODA monolayer was observed during each stage of complexation in the following sequence: primary single-stranded DNA followed by complementary single-stranded DNA followed by the intercalator, ethidium bromide. Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the ODA-DNA complex were formed on different substrates and characterized using quartz-crystal microgravimetry (QCM), Fourier transform infrared …

Competitive Priorities And Managerial Performance: A Taxonomy Of Small Manufacturers, Ravi Kathuria Sep 2000

Competitive Priorities And Managerial Performance: A Taxonomy Of Small Manufacturers, Ravi Kathuria

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Much of the research in manufacturing strategy has focused on specific relationships between a few constructs, with relatively little emphasis on typologies and taxonomies (Bozarth and McDermott, 1998). Using data from 196 respondents in 98 manufacturing units, this study develops a taxonomy of small manufacturers based on their emphasis on several competitive priorities. The annual sales for sixty-four percent of the participating units in this study are below US $50 million, which is on the lower side as compared to other studies in this area (cf., Miller & Roth, 1994). The study findings indicate that different groups of manufacturers – …

Supply-Chain Synchronization: Lessons From Hyundai Motor Company, Chan K. Hahn, Edward A. Duplaga, Janet L. Hartley Aug 2000

Supply-Chain Synchronization: Lessons From Hyundai Motor Company, Chan K. Hahn, Edward A. Duplaga, Janet L. Hartley

Management Faculty Publications

One of the challenges of supply-chain management is developing ways to effectively integrate activities across organizations on the supply chain. Hyundai Motor Company developed mechanisms to coordinate production planning and scheduling activities among supply-chain members. Hyundai Motor's production-and-sales-control (P/SC) department uses regularly scheduled cross-functional meetings and scheduling policies to coordinate supply-chain activities. When implementing this process, the P/SC department overcame structural, environ mental, and behavioral problems. Although Hyundai manage ment concedes that the process is not perfect, communication among supply-chain members has improved, and the P/SC group has successfully promoted mutual understanding and respect among functional areas. The primary benefit, …

A Quality Future For Recreational Fishing On The West Coast., West Coast Recreational Fishing Working Group Jun 2000

A Quality Future For Recreational Fishing On The West Coast., West Coast Recreational Fishing Working Group

Fisheries management papers

The West Coast Region between Kalbarri and Augusta offers a wide range of recreational fishing opportunities. The West Coast Region also receives more fishing pressure than any other, with an estimated 380 000 anglers fishing each year. Already, the signs of a fishery under pressure are showing. Catch rates of dhufish around inshore reef systems such as the Three-mile are a far cry from the 1950s and 60s when people beachlaunched wooden dinghies to fish the inshore waters for these highly prized fish. Increasing pressure on stocks has led to growing community concerns that the future quality of recreational fishing is …

Creating Shared Values: An Exploratory Examination Of Methodology, George G. Byrtek

Faculty Publications - Department of Professional Studies

This exploratory study sought to examine the roles of values clarification and consensus in the process of creating shared values within an organizational subculture. In particular. this study examined the effects the utilization of consensus and values clarification had on the level of member-group value congruency and the affective variables (general job satisfaction, group cohesion, and organizational commitment), which have been positively associated with person-organization fit. Using an organizational subculture composed of 125 individuals. this study treated person-group fit. job satisfaction. commitment, and group cohesion as dependent variables with respect to the independent variables: interventions A and B.
