This presentation explores the redesign of ENGL 1302: Writing for Engineering, an advanced college rhetoric course at Texas Tech University that is specifically tailored for engineering majors and minors. Focused on the integration of technical communication, rhetoric, and engineering principles, the semester-long project aims to equip students with the skills necessary to identify, research, and develop engineering solutions for everyday problems. By reshaping the curriculum to embrace Open Educational Resources (OER), our goal is to normalize the use, development, and implementation of OER in and around the classroom.

In this presentation, the authors explore how standardized processing workflows can encapsulate today’s minimal and extensible processing methods while simultaneously implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) best practices. This was their central purpose when developing the first processing manual at Brandeis University, published in December 2021. The manual includes a processing level matrix, and covers accessioning, surveying, and workflows for five different levels of processing, restrictions, and access determination. Media itself has always been an outlet for the public. It has been used for entertainment, information, and a societal tool from the time when it was first advancing. Sport media is a genre all its own. There has always been a gender divide in sport and sport media. For this critical study, print media sources from different outlets were analyzed to compare two female athletes against two male athletes. Librarians across library types and departments frequently provide training materials to each other, library technicians, and student workers. For these materials to be effective, they must contain accurate information and should also follow guidelines for usable document design. Good design makes documents easier to use, helps documents stand out from other pieces of information, and lends credibility to document creators. A few simple tips, such as following Gestalt principles and using plain language, can improve document usability.
