Dialect Contact: Lexical Availability As A Measure Of The Acquisition Of Characteristics From Another Dialect, Ross James Cairns

Theses and Dissertations

This study uses lexical availability as a way in which to measure the level of an individual's acquisition of the dialect of their spouse. Linking Language To Latino Turnout, Alexander C. Ervin May 2015

Linking Language To Latino Turnout, Alexander C. Ervin

Honors Projects

After Latino-Americans demonstrated their power in the 2012 presidential election, securing increased minority support at the polls has become a primary goal for both major U.S. political parties. A reliable bloc of Latino voters on one’s side could mean more wins, yet Latinos have a low voter turnout rate. This paper explores how to increase Latino turnout and argues that the use of the Spanish language in electoral advertising will have a positive effect and actually raise the rate of Latino participation. By comparing statewide Latino turnout data during both the 2002 midterm elections and the 2008 presidential election, I …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

Computers are becoming more and more important in today's world. They are part of every sector of our society, including education. Most of the studies done so far on computer integration with educational purposes focus on the classification, and incorporation, from a theoretical point of view, of Computer Mediated Communication in the class. Unfortunately, very little empirical research has been done concerning the students' perspectives and reactions when introduced to the use of multimedia technology in the classroom. The present project was started in an effort to analyze and observer the reactions of a group of learners when exposed, in …

Un Estudio Comparativo De La Novela Picaresca Espanola Y Su Equivalente Persa, Ramin Ahmad-Panahi

Theses : Honours

In 1554, in a dying Medieval Spain a novel was published. The author is still anonymous, and the real reasons for his anonymity are yet to be determined. However, with the birth of this short autobiographical novel an entire literary genre emerged. One question could come to mind when one reads the title of this work, that is: "What do Persian and Spanish literature have in common?" To answer this, and many other similar questions, one must take an in-depth look at the history of both countries. Thus focuses this study in its first chapter. It then continues with the …
