The current study includes 204 Mexican teen mothers and their children from a larger study who were interviewed when children were 3 years old (Wave 4; W4), 4 years old (W5), and 5 years old (W6). The current study is guided by the integrative model of developmental competencies (García Coll et al., 1996), which suggests that parents’ adaptive cultural characteristics and exchanges with their children inform children’s developmental competencies. This dissertation reexamines the rise of feminism in 19th-century Spain. In this historical context, the female writers who received recognition were mostly from the upper-middle classes: Fernán Caballero, Rosalía de Castro, Concepción Arenal and Emilia Pardo Bazán, to name a few. However, at the end of the 19th century there was also a group of female authors from lower-middle classes who were promoting freethinking, secular education and equal rights for women in the press. This dissertation examines new ways to think about postdictatorial memory, subjectivity, and cultural production. I explore memory discourses after the most recent military dictatorship in Argentina, compiled in three novels: El fin de la historia by Liliana Heker, La casa de los conejos by Laura Alcoba, and Diario de una princesa Montonera -110% verdad- by Mariana Eva Perez. My research concentrates on the possibility of postdictatorial cultural production being a constantly transforming space, in which the meaning of the dictatorial past is actively produced. A Comparison Of Spanish Language Proficiency As Related To Location And Length Of Stay In A Foreign Language Environment, Karen Minnette Dawson Mckenna

This study examined the relationship of Spanish language proficiency as related to location and length of stay in a foreign language environment. The participants took a Spanish diagnostic test that measures Spanish proficiency through grammar principles and then answered a questionnaire concerning their language learning experiences, location and length of stay in a Spanish language environment.
It was found that Spanish language proficiency increased with longer lengths of stay in the Spanish language environment. No conclusive data were found to support the hypothesis that those in one Spanish-speaking environment attain a higher language proficiency than those in another Spanish-speaking area. …
