Actaeon, Artichokes, And Audrey Ii: Fear And Food In Popular Narratives, Margaret E. Foster

Food has a dual physical and sociocultural relationship to human life. This duality positions images of food as uniquely powerful when subverted in literary or aesthetic representations for the purpose of evoking what Joyce Carol Oates (1998) calls “aesthetic fear.” Drawing on symbolism primarily from Classical mythology, Western European fairy tales, American horror movies, and resistance poetry from the Spanish Civil War, this paper explores four symbolic subversions of the food chain (when hunters are hunted; bloodthirsty plants; cannibalism; and hunger). Cien años de soledad es un aviso de lo que ha de venir para latinoamérica. En esta investigación, comprobaremos que García Márquez sitúa a cada uno de sus lectores como personajes principales en su obra. El libro está supuesto a llamarnos a la aventura, y crear en nosostros un espíritu de héroe. Usando una reserva basta de diferentes investigadores literarios esperamos argumentar que mediante los temas y personajes centrales, el autor construye y define lo que es un héroe, y espera que sus lectores se inspiran a ser héroes también.
