This work is a one volume published by the National Library of Uruguay with a prologue by Dr. George Reid Andrews. It provides an in depth analysis of the corpus of caricatures made by Mario R. Mendez, an afro-Uruguayan artist, for the magazine “Our Race” during its second period 1933-1948. These editorial caricatures made a strong statement against the Fascism in Europe and the League of Nations’ attitude towards the invasion of Ethiopia ordered by Benito Mussolini. They also satirized the political and social reality in Uruguay. Both, the caricatures and the magazine provide a testimony of an extensive cultural …

La Representación De La Masculinidad Y La Violencia De Género En La Novela Española De La Posguerra, Alfredo M. Pastor
FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations
While it may be argued that aggression against women is part of a culture of violence deeply rooted in Spanish society, the gender-related violence that exists in today’s Spain is more specifically a legacy of Franco’s dictatorship (1939-1975). Franco’s Spain endorsed unequal gender relations, championed patriarchal dominance and power over women, and imposed models of hegemonic and authoritarian masculinities that internalized violence by rendering it a feature inseparable from manhood and virility.
This dissertation provides a comprehensive analysis of masculinity and gender violence in Franco’s Spain, by analyzing the novel as the primary cultural vehicle of social criticism and political …

Mil Y Una Muertes De Sergio Ramírez Y Los Fantasmas De La Construcción Nacional Nicaragüense, Alberto Ribas-Casasayas
Modern Languages & Literature

Red Social En La Celestina: Una Aproximación Cuantitativa A Su Sistema De Personajes, Jennifer Isasi
Department of Modern Languages and Literatures: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Can Scripture and Prayer be anchors for success in academia, as well as a forum for nurturing, discipleship, and retention? Christian education bears the objective of spiritual growth and academic achievement. To attain this goal in my classes, each student selects, provides, and models, linguistically-speaking, a chosen Scripture reading, with a life application. Prayer is offered, providing a framework for the formulation of a prayer in the target language, facilitating competence to communicate with God through a newly acquired means. Studies have shown that the ability to express one's inner thoughts in another language increases one's aptitude and …
