Letter, 2 January 1973, to Mr. Riley Handy, librarian, Kentucky Library, Bowling Green, Kentucky, from M. A. Harris, President of Negro History Association, New York City, relative to James Stone, a mulatto who escaped from Kentucky to Ohio and passed as a white man and later lost his life as a soldier in the Civil War. Also, photocopies of pension claim, 1863, and a letter, 1972.

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Collection 8. Correspondence and diaries of Deel Carl Perguson, Jr., Horse Branch (Ohio County), Kentucky, and Seattle, Washington. Of interest are his letters written while serving in World War II in the United States, North Africa, and Italy, and his later memoirs of this period. Also of interest are diaries of his years as a student at Western Kentucky State Teachers College, 1939-1943. The collection also includes his recollections of growing up in Horse Branch in the 1920s and 1930s.

Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 222. Photocopy of diary kept by Marvin G. Hoffman, Tiffin, Ohio while serving in the Ohio National Guard and the 2nd Ohio Infantry, chiefly during the period of the Spanish American War. Hoffman gives a good picture of his training and of life in the Ohio, Georgia, and Tennessee camps where he was stationed.

Two letters from John McKee, serving with the 37th Indiana Infantry, to his wife Sarah McKee in Hamilton, Ohio. He writes of his encampments near Nashville and Murfreesboro, Tennessee, his reading, nearby guerrilla activity involving John Hunt Morgan, difficulties with mail, and the general condition of the countryside.
