The Indiana Congressional Delegation And Foreign Policy Issues 1939-1941, Loretta S. Glaze
The Indiana Congressional Delegation And Foreign Policy Issues 1939-1941, Loretta S. Glaze
Graduate Thesis Collection
This paper is an examination of the foreign policy attitudes of Indiana's United States Senators and Representatives during the critical years before the Second World War. My purpose is to determine whether these particular Mid-Westerners were a part of the isolationist bloc in Congress which exerted a significant influence on the formulation of foreign policy. The scope of the study is limited to an elucidation of the individual views as expressed in Congress b the members of the delegation and an analysis of the campaign for re-election waged by each of them as it relates to the broader issue.

The Highly Personal Dispute Between Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jefferson: The Confrontation Over Domestic Issues In Washngton's First Cabinet, Scott F. Hyland
All Master's Theses
The intended result of this study is a presentation of the force of personality as the chief explanatory factor in the dispute between Hamilton and Jefferson, and as chief factor in Washington's role as unwilling catalyst. The boundaries will be the historical discipline, utilizing the more measurable psychological insights as given above. The result will hopefully be an insightful connection between personality, behavior, and history.

François Pierre Guillaume Guizot: An Intellectual Approach, Elbert Hardy Cave
François Pierre Guillaume Guizot: An Intellectual Approach, Elbert Hardy Cave
Dissertations and Theses
The problem of this study was to present an intellectual picture of a man who is too often written off as a mere politician and a failure at that.
In approaching the problem, his works were used heavily, though availability was a problem. François Guizot, the man studied, wrote profusely, on a large variety of subjects, including philosophy, religion, history, political theory, and education. All of these areas were covered in the study. His private papers and correspondence are, for the most part, unpublished, though the eight volumes of his Mémoires were extremely helpful.
There are many good biographical studies …

The U.S. Policy In Vietnam, As It Relates To The Geneva And S.E.A.T.O. Agreements, Bobby Shepherd
Honors Theses
Few chapters in American history have been filled with more importance and had more impact upon this nation politically, socially and morally than has the era of active involvement in the land war in Vietnam, during the mid 1960's. The war has taken almost 50,000 American lives, has contributed directly to the political end of one American President and had plunged the United States into an ordeal of examination and internal turmoil rarely seen in U.S. history.
As great as the impact of this war has been, it is remarkable that little is recalled by American citizens or acknowledged by …

Foreign Policy Decisions Which Led To United States Military Occupation Of The Dominican Republic, Bert Lewis Junior Farrar
Foreign Policy Decisions Which Led To United States Military Occupation Of The Dominican Republic, Bert Lewis Junior Farrar
Dissertations and Theses
To achieve independence, the Dominican Republic had to first endure three centuries of heavy-handed Spanish rule and period of Haitian domination that lasted for twenty-two years. Fear of Haitian reconquest, however, convinced the leading Dominican politicians that the new nation could not long endure without foreign protection.
Encouraged by Dominican offers of a naval base, the United States toyed with the idea of expansion in the Caribbean as early as 1850, but civil war cut short these notions and allowed Spain to reassert control over her former colony. Although Spanish occupation ended in failure the United States became more determined …

Senator William E. Borah's Dry Campaign : Its Effect On The Presidential Election Of 1928, Emily White Zehmer
Senator William E. Borah's Dry Campaign : Its Effect On The Presidential Election Of 1928, Emily White Zehmer
Honors Theses
Like many of its predecessors, the campaign for the Presidency of the United States in 1928 began months before candidates were nominated and ballots were cast. The Republican Party found itself without a candidate when President Coolidge announced late in the summer of 1927 that he would not seek re-election in the following year. There was a slight scramble within Republican ranks for the nomination. Among those considered were Senator Charles G. Curtis of Kansas, majority floor leader, who subsequently was elected Vice-President; Senator William E. Borah, the Idaho Progressive whose role in the campaign is explored herein; Dr. Nicholas …

Hipólito Irigoyen's Second Administration: A Study In Administrative Collapse, Herman John Hobi
Dissertations and Theses
In 1928 Hipo´lito lrigoyen was the most popular President that the Argentine people had elected. Two years later his popularity had evaporated and a few hundred military cadets ousted the government. The reasons go beyond this two-year period. Argentina, contrary to popular belief, did not have a democratic tradition. The nation had been ruled by the dominant economic interests up to 1916. In 1916, Hipo´lito Irigoyen was elected to his first term. The people expected him to provide them with a decent and honorable life. But in choosing the legal path of elections instead of revolution Irigoyen pre-empted any revolutionary …

Patrick J. Hurley And China, 1944-1945, Robert T. Handy
Patrick J. Hurley And China, 1944-1945, Robert T. Handy
Dissertations and Theses
On November 26, 1945, the Ambassador to China, Patrick J. Hurley, announced his resignation to the American press. In doing so, he leveled charges against the State Department and a number of its Foreign Service officers—charges which questioned the integrity of many, in their relation with what Hurley termed the “Imperialist” and communist nations in China. Those charges were the beginning of two and one-half decades of ideological crusading in America by many who developed the theory that those men charged by Hurley had been responsible for America’s “loss of China”
Hurley was sent to China in 1944 as President …
