Includes letters explaining the project, completed survey forms documenting six historic buildings in Simpson County, and the Commission’s report of its major accomplishments for 1972-1973. Also includes a program on the history of the Kentucky Governor’s mansion, prepared by the Daughters of the American Revolution in opposition to a proposal to convert it to another use.

Most relates to Muir’s interest in John Rowan and his Bardstown, Kentucky home Federal Hill, and to Stephen Foster’s association with the property, thought to have been the inspiration for his song “My Old Kentucky Home.” Muir brings sources on Rowan to the attention of WKU faculty member Frances Richards, the author of a master’s thesis on Rowan. Also includes Muir’s correspondence with J. Winston Coleman regarding the Rowan-Chambers duel, and letters about his family and travel.

Leland Taylor, president of the Liberty Hall Association. The letter solicits subscriptions to enable the Association to exercise an option to purchase Liberty Hall in Frankfort, Kentucky and open the house to the public. The letter notes the purchase price of $30,000, a figure that includes a Gilbert Stuart portrait, and lists other historical and patriotic organizations cooperating in the effort.

Includes full-text scans of a letter from the brother of steamboat pioneer James Rumsey defending his legacy as an innovator; James Weir's journal; James Weir's will; the annotated recollections of Edward Weir, Sr.; and two letters from former Weir slaves recolonized in Liberia (Click on "Additional files" below).
