Georgia And Russia: A Tenuous Relationship, Ani Rostomyan
Helm's School of Government Conference - American Revival: Citizenship & Virtue
In 1801, the Tsar of Russia signed a decree in order to incorporate Georgia into the Russian empire. The decree was very unpopular among the Georgians and caused much unrest. After 1905, Joseph Stalin, a Georgian, became a revolutionary in the country and eventually lead the Soviet Union. In 1922, the Soviet Union forced Georgia to be a part of a Socialist Republic with its surrounding countries, upending the local population and disrupting historic boundary lines. The Political Evolution Of Howell Cobb On The Road To Secession In Antebellum Georgia History, Kathryn M. Haney
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
“The Political Evolution of Howell Cobb on the Road to Secession in Antebellum Georgia History” examines how Howell Cobb, the Southern Democratic politician who fiercely advocated for the preservation of the Union, eventually capitulated to the secession of Georgia. The five-term congressman, Georgia Governor, and Secretary of the Treasury was a key figure in the political history of Antebellum Georgia on the eve of secession. Cobb sought compromise through legislative solutions to sectional issues, argued against a state’s constitutional right to secession without just cause, and advocated for the doctrine of popular sovereignty with regards to the institution of slavery. …

“Long Have I Wished To See The King:” Indigenous Transatlantic Diplomacy In The 18th Century North American Southeast, Riley Christian Bowers
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports
This thesis situates three examples of transatlantic diplomacy practiced by Cherokee and Yamacraw diplomats in the eighteenth century within their Indigenous contexts. Utilizing treaty negotiations, transcripts from diplomatic summits, official correspondence, published journals, and newspapers, this study aims to situate these delegations within an Indigenous and transatlantic sociopolitical context. The aim of this work is to address questions regarding the objectives of the people involved, and to trace the outcomes of their policies. The answers to these questions explain one of many southeastern Indigenous political strategies of the eighteenth century, one that highlights the imperial center as a crucial setting …
