These are the words of Karen Bye, a self-avowed lesbian and the major force in forming the Wilde-Stein Club. The club is composed of male and female homosexuals who meet each week to find social and psychological support from each other.

Such gross and all-encompassing statements lead me to feel pity--pity for those who write articles, make unfounded charges, and generalize and discredit our University. To the aforementioned I ask, "What do you want?"

Frank Brooks was born in Fayette County, WV, but grew up in Carter County, KY, in the early 1900s. He attended a one room school house through the third grade. Mr. Brooks began working in coal mines with his father in Borderland, WV, when he was 13 years old. In the audio clip provided, he discusses his first time in a coal mine. He focuses on how he tried to appear bigger than he was in order to be able to work. In his interview, Mr. Brooks compares and contrasts the labor conditions in the mines before and after unionization. …

The man elected as president of the Swiss American Historical Society in the spring of 1940 was Emil J. Schaefer. Born in 18 92 in Zurich- Hongg, he came to the United States as a 19 year old youth who just had finished the Gymnasium n Winterthur. He attended several colleges in the Midwest and earned a master 's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. The great pioneering scientist is renowned in Switzerland for his research on glaciers and the glacial ages, as well as in the U.S.A. Rene Naville, an active diplomat and writer introduces his readers in this work to a variety of Swiss scholars who as travelers or as academicians have dealt with aspects of the native cultures of the Western Hemisphere. The study of these men is to reveal the Swiss presance in the Americans as well as Latin American and Amerindian presence in Switzerland. The auhor bases his findings mainly on secondary sources: this is an attempted synthesis, not a presentation of original new findings.
