This collection consists of photocopied letters of the Keller family of Bulloch County, Georgia from 1862-1903. Most letters are addressed to Mary Annis Keller (later Hodges), from cousins serving in the Confederate Army as well as later letters from other family members. Also included are muster rolls of various Confederate units, 1860 census records of Chatham and Effingham Counties, and a chart showing the value of Confederate money to gold, 1861-May 1866.

Eastern Illinois University Bulletin

Each of the 102 counties in Illinois made its own contribution to the enviable war record of the state. Coles County ranked near the top of the 102 names. Her population in 1860 was 14,174. Her total troop quota for the entire war was 2,728, and she furnished 2,741 in all, or 13 men in excess of the quota. In the final analysis, not more than 3 counties furnished more troops in proportion to the population than did Coles.

Volunteering in Coles did not lag until the latter part of the war. On July 1, 1864, Coles led all other …

The Committee on Women's Work reports that the Women's Missionary Union has been existence for thirty years and continues to grow. The Committee on Obituaries reports the passing of R.N. Hawkins, a Confederate solider and longtime pastor who served in Cleveland, Gaston, and Rutherford counties.

This Act, dated June 1, 1910, also known as United States (US) Public law 61-197, authorizes and directs the US Secretary of the Interior to cause to be surveyed, and to sell and dispose of all the "surplus" unallotted and unreserved lands within the portion of the Forth Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota lying east and north of the Missouri River.

Letter from Hiram S. and Hannah Davis to Lieutenant J.L. Ham, April 16, 1880. These are two separate letters that were mailed together. Both Hiram and Hannah inquired of Ham if he knew William Davis, Hiram's brother and Hannah's son who was in the same prison camp at Salisbury, North Carolina around the same time and died in January of 1865. They provide unique commentary on Northern reactions to the Confederate treatment of Union prisoners and the bitter attitude still held nearly fifteen years after the war.
