This collection consists of a series of interviews conducted by David Taylor with eight fishermen about the commercial fisheries of the Penobscot River in Maine. Taylor interviewed men who fished for smelt, salmon, sturgeon, alewives, eels, and cod; also an eel wholesaler. Methods discussed include net fishing; weir fishing; and winter fishing. Towns discussed include Winterport; Frankfort; and Bangor.

A series of thirteen interviews, totaling twenty-four hours of recordings, conducted in 1973-1974 by David Taylor under contract for the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport, Maine, with fishermen from the Penobscot Bay region. Themes include equipment used and techniques; fisheries locations, species, and extent; dangers and satisfactions of the fisherman’s life; industry economics; family and community networks. A collection 73 separate accessions containing interviews with Mainers on a wide range of topics relating to life and work in the state of Maine, conducted 1972-1983 by Lynn Franklin, a journalist who specialized in cultural stories, occupational lore, life histories, and human interest stories. Of special interest are Franklin's interviews relating to lobstering, woods work, guides and canoe building, boats and boat building, and rural education. Franklin published Profiles of Maine in 1976 based on some of his interviews deposited in the Northeast Archives.

A series of interviews conducted by Maine Folklife Center staff with men who were enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corp. in the 1930s and served at one of the three camps run by ANP: the Eagle Lake or Bar Harbor camp (on the site of the current park headquarters), the Long Pond or Southwest Harbor camp (off Clark Point Road); and the Ellsworth camp (on the Buttermilk Road). Also included are interviews with women who married men from the camps and other local residents who remember the camps. Included are 226 photographs.

The original donation, which focuses on country music in Maine, was added to the archive in the summer of 2006. The focus was expended to music in Maine generally as well as storytelling (especially about Herbert F. Jackson) and jokes when other interviews were added by McKeen.

Fifteen accessions comprise the collection, which include Hal Lone Pine radio shows and oral interviews. These materials were gathered and donated by Jeff “Smokey” McKeen. The interviews were conducted by McKeen with country musicians and listeners in the 1990s to the present. Several other accessions outside of this collection are related to McKeen, …

A series of interviews with people who knew and lived with Fannie Hardy Eckstorm (1865–1946) of Brewer, Maine. Hardy Eckstorm was an American writer, ornithologist, and folklorist who earned recognition as one of the foremost authorities on Maine's history, wildlife, and cultures. Hardy Eckstorm served as the first female superintendent of schools in Brewer, Maine from 1889-1891. Though she authored many works, Hardy Eckstorm maybe best known for her book The Penobscot Man, first published in 1904.

Part II is recordings from the Localized Fishery Stocks conference attended and recorded by Ted Ames about the implications of localized fish stocks on October 31 and November 1, 1997.

In 1979-1980 Hugh French received a National Endowment for the Humanities "Youth Grant" to curate an exhibit on the history of the Eastport, Maine, waterfront, 1890-1920. Edward D. “Sandy” Ives of the Northeast Archives of Folklore and Oral History (now Maine Folklife Center) at the University of Maine acted as academic sponsor for this project. French subsequently worked with SALT, a documentary program in Portland, Maine, and founded the Tides Institute in Eastport, Maine.

The project "Notre Vie, Notre Travail-Our Life, Our Work" was initiated by the Lewiston Western Older Citizens Council by Diane Brown who worked there. Funded by the Maine Humanities Council, this project involved a series of bilingual interviews utilizing family albums to stimulate discussion about Franco-American culture, particularly as it pertained to work. That is, it concerned the following: how work reflected cultural values; work ethic; work/occupation patterns; how work was integrated with family life (or interfered with it); the history of work patterns in the Lewiston area, and about Franco-American culture and family life in general.

A series of interviews and supplemental manuscript material on dowsing or water witching, most conducted as part of a class project in Edward D. “Sandy” Ives’ Oral History and Folklore: Fieldwork (AY 125) course at the University of Maine in 1984. Other accessions were added to the series because of their focus on dowsing. Dowsers discuss techniques and materials; uses of dowsing in archaeology learning to dowse; beliefs about dowsing; dowsing as a way of healing; locating ley lines; and tell dowsing stories.

This collections consists of a series of interviews and recordings of various meetings and sessions of the Spiritualist Church in Maine and especially at Camp Etna. They were conducted by Bonita Freeman Witthoft in connection with her thesis From the Other Side of Life: Modern Spiritualism in Maine, c.1975.

Witthoft was primarily interested in fundamental religious concepts, forms of apprenticeship, acquired patterns of perception and behavior, the discipline of mediums as spokesmen for spirit guides, and on the complex act of delivering messages. Among topics covered are healing, physical versus mental mediumship, projection, trance, controls and guides, and automatism.
