This includes legislative records from Winters’ multiple terms as Oregon State Representative and Senator, as well as political campaign documentation, speeches, event programs, correspondence, and press from this time period. Additionally, select documentation regarding charitable activities, pre-legislative work, and personal activities are included. This project was part of a larger sabbatical project to reconstruct the missing history of Linfield women’s athletics. Specifically, this grant funded travel to Washington State University to review the archived special collection on the Northwest College Women’s Sports Association (NCWSA), the regional structure in which Linfield women’s athletics competed from 1967-83. The grant also funded travel to Lewis and Clark College to review the archived special collection on the Northwest Conference (NWC) in hopes of locating archived documents on the Women’s Conference of Independent Colleges (WCIC). The WCIC was the conference in which Linfield women’s athletics competed from 1964-85. …

Making Herstory: Cherokee Women's Stickball, Natalie M. Welch, Jessica Siegele, Zachary T. Smith, Robin Hardin

Cherokee stickball amongst the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is a sporting tradition that precedes written records. Historical and academic texts have focused on men’s participation in the sport. However, Cherokee women participated in their own stickball games as recent as a decade ago, and stories exist of women playing stickball in the late nineteenth century. Many in the community believe stickball should not be played by women and doubt evidence of women playing historically. Celia Zimmerman was an alumna of Linfield College (1935). She and her brother, Gordon Zimmerman, were longtime residents of Yamhill County and were involved in the arts during their lives in McMinnville. Gordon, an operatically trained tenor, premiered the American performance of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff in 1954 and occasionally sang with the Linfield Choir, notably in a Messiah production.

In this opinion piece originally published in the Oregonian, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner reflects on his grandfather's immigration status in light of the Trump administration's decision to end temporary protection for 200,000 Salvadoran immigrants who came to the United States without documentation.
