On 19 September 1865, she writes of her family in New Albany, Indiana, her husband’s business, and her affection for Catherine’s young daughter. On 22 February 1866, she relates further news of her family and husband, and wonders if Catherine has another baby; in light of her delicate health, she suggests that Catherine send her husband “trav[e]ling” and offers to help “give him a good whip[p]ing.”

Boyd writes to her mother, Elizabeth A. “Lizzie” Rogers, from boarding school in Fleming County, Kentucky in 1865, where she discusses having her photograph taken, “hateful” schoolmates, and provisions from her family of clothing, whiskey and bitters. In the 1880s, Ida Lee Bell receives letters from cousins, friends and suitors with family news and local gossip. One of her letters voices disapproval of young men who drink when calling on ladies. The letters mention many family members by first name.

Ann claims that James has failed to administer estate funds for her benefit as agreed to by all her children, and driven her from homes she shared with him in Virginia and Warren County. The record consists of the plaintiff’s complaint and a summons to James.

Dallas was in the Army Air Corps and stationed in Louisville, Kentucky, while Ginny was living in her hometown of Ventnor, New Jersey, right outside Atlantic City. The letters are courtship related and are filled with plans for their wedding on 15 September 1945.
