This investigation was made for the purpose of determining what has been accomplished in the past in the study of ethnobiology of the southwest Indians. Much of this has been produced as incidental to the archaeology of the region, and some as definite biological problems. Also isolated pieces of work have been done with the different Indian peoples and with varying phases of their ethnobiology. It is therefore proposed to organize and correlate this great mass of ethnobiological literature into a plan which (1 ) includes the entire region and (2) considers the various phases of the culture …

To study the culture or a people, to become acquainted with the arts, folklore, religion, industries, and traditions, past and present, of what seems to be a slowly dying Indian pueblo -- was the writer's main purpose when she became interest􀀲d in Sandia pueblo, a town or the old, old Tiguex province, so often mentioned in southwestern history and folklore.
