Gender-Based Perceptions Of The 2001 Anthrax Attacks: Implications For Outreach And Preparedness, Christopher Salvatore, Brian J. Gorman

Extensive research dealing with gender-based perceptions of fear of crime has generally found that women express greater levels of fear compared to men. Further, studies have found that women engage in more self-protective behaviors in response to fear of crime, as well as have different levels of confidence in government efficacy relative to men. The majority of these studies have focused on violent and property crime; little research has focused on gender-based perceptions of the threat of bioterrorism. Civilization is the reflection of a constant effort to increase reproduction while suppressing pleasure. This is because civilized societies are artificial systems that are governed by rulers. They are militarized and operate through production, consumption, exchange of goods and services, and the transfer of wealth. Unlike reproduction, pleasure and release of tension do little to benefit the rulers (unless they are involved in the process themselves, of course). Elle Woods, Legally Blonde, And The Hero’S Journey: What, Like, It’S Hard?, Reghan J. Ruf

This chapter offers an analysis of the heroism of the character of Elle Woods in the movie 'Legally Blonde'. Elle must overcome judgmental, clique-ish Harvard Law students and the universal expectation that she will never make it through a semester at Harvard, let alone somehow come out on top. The belief that her appearance and her different socialization will cause her to completely fail at Harvard ends up helping her transform motivationally and intellectually in a manner consistent with underdog heroes.
