AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
It’s not every day that a youthfully beautiful maiden commits manslaughter. Then again, it’s not every day that an unarmed, outnumbered band of would-be martyrs conquers world-class military threats. And it’s not every day that violence promotes peace, or that vice masks the victory of virtue. Yet these are the ageless anachronisms that have shaped both our social reality and our beloved legends, the unanticipated underdogs. “Ic him ealdor oðþrong,” Judith said humbly of her malignant captor, “I took his life” (Cooper 9). This eponymous, 10th century war- hero—a seemingly obscure Hebrew woman—turned the tide of a critical battle between …

AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
The Old Testament tells us the first woman on earth, Eve, was created from the rib of the first man, Adam. To many, this symbolizes equality between the sexes. A historical theologian said, “to be formed from the side symbolically indicates equality rather than domination or subjection” (O’Loughlin, 1993). Wheelwright-Brown (2020) stated how the effect of mankind’s view of Eve’s brave choice to partake of the fruit of the tree of life had serious, harmful consequences for women:
There’s the effect it had on men, and the way they have been subtly influenced to perceive women and think of women. …

The Misrepresentation Of Women In Video Games, Abigail Warr
AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
According to the most recent statistics, 45% of the people who regularly play video games in the United States are now female (Entertainment Software Association, 2021). The video game industry is no longer dominated by male consumers, and yet many times the female roles in video games still do not demonstrate the well-rounded, complex characters that female consumers may want. Instead, women in video games generally seem to display “emphasized femininity” by fulfilling female stereotypes in an unrealistic way (Dill & Thill, 2007). This emphasized femininity can be displayed by being oversexualized (Melzer, 2019; Summers & Miller, 2014), or by …

AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
Throughout the short time frame of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Lord and Lady Macbeth are childless. However, textual evidence suggests that the Macbeth’s did conceive a child who passed away prior to the opening acts of the play. At the end of act 1, Lady Macbeth tells her husband, “I have given suck,” clearly acknowledging her experience with motherhood and feeding a child (1.7.54). As suggested by Alice Fox, other references to death and childlessness occur throughout the text as the Macbeth’s use early modern language associated with gynecology and obstetrics to describe the events of the play (127). Because childlessness was …

“B, grab me my napkin, why don’t you,” Jim says, leaning back into the plush, bloodred chair at Spanky’s. Spanky’s is hardly a dinner date—I mean, it’s a sandwich place.
But it’s what Jim wants. And what he wants, he gets.
Still, I hesitate, thinking about telling him to just snatch it up off the ground himself. I’m not his slave. The napkin’s right in front of him.

AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
Many people are undervalued in our society. Prejudice has been forced into the light in recent years and people are now actively warring against it. As a society and world, we need equality. We need protection for those who can’t protect themselves. Pushing out prejudice is a must. People should have opportunities to live the life they want, but oftentimes when we “push out prejudice,” we are only replacing it with prejudice towards another group. We have seen this countless times in society, but there is one branch in particular that I would like to focus on, The Homemaker. To …

AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
This body of mine remains without any food, without even a drop of water: in such sweet physical tortures as I never at any time endured; insomuch that my life hangs by a thread.” At only thirty three years old Saint Catherine of Siena lay in an almost constant state of hallucination, unable to stand, and on the verge of death. Saint Catherine lived the majority of her life in a near constant state of starvation as a form of suffering for religious worship, but four months before her death, she expressed she had lost the ability to take water …

AWE (A Woman’s Experience)
I was drawn to the women’s suffrage movement because of its impact on our world today. 2020 marked the 150th anniversary of America’s first female vote, cast by Seraph Young in Utah. That day made history, immortalizing the effort of countless other women beforehand, coming together to achieve a common goal. Speaking up and advocating for what we know we deserve has been, and will continue to be, a historical struggle. However, anything is possible if we work together and fight for it long and hard enough. Recognizing the efforts and successes of women who came before us brings inspiration, …

It’s a world-famous cathedral, and I’m there, alone. Alone except for the tourists around me, who don’t count because I didn’t come here with them. Didn’t fly over the Atlantic with them. Alone except for the Instagram influencers next to me at the prayer candles, one onscreen talent and the other there to make the magic happen. On-screen has taken off her cardigan to reveal large breasts, leaning forward to make them pop. She opens her mouth slightly to let the candle glow reflect off her lip gloss. She turns her head from side to side, letting her camera-woman’s phone-in-hand …
