The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that affect the persistence of re-entry women over age twenty-five at an urban state university using Vincent Tinto's academic-social fit theory of retention and persistence which posits that once this fit is achieved, persistence and retention will be positively affected.;The re-entry women's population at Urban State University, an historically black university, was studied. The purpose of this study was to investigate the sex-trait stereotype church lay people had of women clergy. Two groups of lay people were studied, those who had and had not had a woman clergy as either pastor or assistant pastor of a church to which they belonged. This is a descriptive study of 33 graduate school educated women who have chosen to stay home with their children. The study includes a discussion of five major areas: personality characteristics, decision-making process, level of job satisfaction, peer and family relationships, and self-image.;The Methodology for this study involved four data gathering procedures: the demographic data form, the structural interview, the California Psychological Inventory (CPI), and the Bems Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI). Participants were obtained by sending fliers home with children at five preschools in the Richmond, Virginia Metropolitan area.;Demographic Data. The mean age for the group was 34. All were part …

Born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1815, Anna Ella Carroll was the eldest daughter of Maryland Governor Thomas King Carroll. By the early 1850s, she had become a political pamphleteer for the Know-Nothing Party, a nativist and anti-Catholic organization. She wrote a number of books and election pamphlets supporting the presidential candidacy of Millard Fillmore in 1856. In the election of 1860, she promoted the candidacy of John Minor Botts of Virginia, a strong Unionist.;When Civil War began, Carroll worked to support Lincoln's action, and wrote several pamphlets on his behalf. The Effects Of Women's Studies On The Fear Of Success And Locus Of Control Of Female College Students, Arlene Spielholz Levine

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of women's studies courses on the fear of success and locus of control of female college students. The relationship between fear of success and locus of control was also examined.;Subjects for the investigation included: 243 male and female students from The College of William and Mary (128 students) and Old Dominion University (115 students). The treatment group consisted of 153 students enrolled in women's studies courses. The comparison group consisted of 81 students not enrolled in women's studies classes. Both the treatment and comparison groups were pretested and posttested. The …
