Obligados Y Ofendidos By Francisco De Rojas Zorrilla, Patricia Petersen

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

Obligado y ofendidos, a seventeenth century comedia by Don Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla, is a play suited to hold the interest and attention of the reader capable of understanding the written Spanish word. However, up to the present time, there has been no edition of this drama designed especially for students, with their particular problem in mind. Therefore, the present text of Obligados y ofendidos is intended for use by students of Spanish on the high school or college level normally prepared to read the language.

The Comic Art Of Don Francisco De Rojas Zorrilla In His Comedies Of Customs, Maryavis Parson

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

From the preceding discussion it may be seen that Rojas is worthy of consideration with the rest of the dramatists of Spain. However it becomes apparent that while recognizing his importance, critics have not analyzed in detail his works in their entirety. For this reason the problem arises as to what justifies Rojas' position among six foremost Golden Age dramatists. After examining the different opinions of the above-mentioned critics, we find that invariably any adverse criticism of his talent is of his love for the bizarre and the extravagant both in language and in situation or in problems. Martinez de …

A Study Of The Use Of The Subjunctive Mood In The Poema De Mio Cid, Etta Creecy Goff May 1952

A Study Of The Use Of The Subjunctive Mood In The Poema De Mio Cid, Etta Creecy Goff

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

The study of the use of the subjunctive in the Poema de Mio Cid is more complex than might be anticipated at the outset. As it is true in most languages, the subjunctive was used much more widely in the writing of such an early date than in modern Spanish. Many of the constructions employed in the poem are common in the language of today, but some have passed from current usage. Some of the interesting aspects of the problem are the use of the -ra form, the great frequency of the use of the future subjunctive, the use of …

Los Cruzados De La Causa By Ramón De Valle Inclán, Shirley Lee Zabel May 1952

Los Cruzados De La Causa By Ramón De Valle Inclán, Shirley Lee Zabel

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

It always seems wise to review the life of a great author before attempting to analyze his work. However, the usual listing of important dates in the author's life, places of residence, travels, positions held, schooling, and circumstances of death, does not capture the true relationship between the personality of the man and his creative works. This is especially true in the case of don Ramón del Valle Iclán, whose strong personality eludes the student in a generalized factual description of his life. He was born of noble family Galicia in 1866, studied three years of law, lived a Bohemian …
