The Portuguese Complimentary Infinitive After Nouns And Adjectives, Peter J. Lunardini

The Portuguese usage of the preposition following verbs has been thoroughly studied by Francisco Fernandes in his Dictionàrio de verbos e regimes. However, the preposition required to supplement a noun or an adjective before a complementary infinitive has been virtually excluded from Portuguese dictionaries. It is the purpose of this thesis to present a study, together with examples, of this important phase of Portuguese syntax.
To obtain this information, thirty-one works of nineteen modern Portuguese and Brazilian authors were carefully examined, and the prepositional usage was recorded. The following general conclusions are based upon approximately 4,000 examples collected.
