The Bronx: a bucolic oasis laden with history, a suburb within city-limits, an urban warzone, and thanks to the recent renaissance, a phoenix of progress rising from the proverbial ashes of the fires that burned through the borough in the 1970’s. But many people are unaware that the Bronx also brewed.

In her article "Immigrant and Irish Identities in Hand in the Fire and Hamilton's Writing between 2003 and 2014" Dervila Cooke discusses the intertwining of Irish and immigrant identities. Cooke examines the connection between openness to memory and embracing migrant identities in Hamilton's writing both in the 2010 novel and as a whole. New Faces, Old Masks: Borders And Confinements Between The Desert And The Mediterranean Sea, Paola Zaccaria

Human Architecture: Journal of the Sociology of Self-Knowledge

This essay, which analyzes what is happening in "Fortress Europe" as a result of (postcolonial) migration, deals with the geography and politics of migration in the South of Italy, in Puglia and on Italy's southernmost island, Lampedusa ("the Southern Gate to Fortress Europe," Andrijasevic 2006) where people arriving on "despair boats" are confined in temporary holding centers, places reminiscent of Nazi concentration camps. Taking account of the fact that the primary regions of origin of these undocumented migrants have been identified by NGO (ARCI and Mèdecins sans Frontiéres) as the Middle East, Maghreb, Horn of Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa ...
