Diary Of A French Girl: Surviving Intercultural Encounters, Marie-Claire Patron

Marie-Claire Patron

DIARY OF A FRENCH GIRL is the personal journal of a young French traveller who shares with us her perspectives, experiences and insights into the English Diaspora. It is a unique opportunity for Anglophones to take a look into a magic French mirror and to examine themselves through the eyes of a Francophone. On a broader level, this book also serves to prepare all global travellers for the experiences and emotions they will encounter as they journey through different time zones, lands, languages, people and cultures. Building Utopia: Performance And The Fantasy Of Urban Renewal In Contemporary Toronto, Laura Levin, Kim Solga

Kim Solga

Alongside the official pitch, a number of street-level underground initiatives reimagine Toronto's utopic future in a different way by means of site-specific performances. But do these grassroots performance schemes necessarily create a more inclusive, more equitable city?

Without Education Or Encouragement: The Literary Legacy Of Flora Thompson, Ruth Hoffman

Ruth C. Hoffman

For over sixty years, English writer Flora Thompson (1876-1947) has been celebrated as the author of "Lark Rise to Candleford" (1945), a rural trilogy that is considered a minor classic among writings about the English countryside. Challenging the assumption that "Lark Rise to Candleford" is Thompson's only significant work, this book examines the whole of Thompson's oeuvre, including the poetry, short fiction, and essays that she published in women's periodicals before World War II, her book of poetry, "Bog Myrtle and Peat" (1921), and two posthumously published works, "Still Glides the Stream" (1947) and "Heatherley" (1979). In addition to reassessing …
