Creativity and Change Leadership Graduate Student Master's Projects

My Daily Grounds: A Journal of Creative Alchemy is a project intended to renew artistic confidence and prepare a mindset for a writing retreat in Ireland in June 2024 by revisiting childhood memories and exploring the impact of early domestic abuse through a visual journaling process. This endeavor aims to stir up the creative voice and find authenticity in creation by gathering and clarifying personal data visually, following the Creative (CPS) approach to unlock new insights and ideas for writing. Aletheia: The Orphic Ouroboros, Glen Mcknight Jan 2020

Aletheia: The Orphic Ouroboros, Glen Mcknight

Theses : Honours

This thesis shows how The Orphic Hymns function as a katábasis, a descent to the underworld, representing a process of becoming and psychological rebirth. I begin with the Greek concept of sparagmόs, a dismemberment or deconstruction, as a necessary precursor in that it emphasises at once both primordial unity and yet also the incipient tensions within the Orphic initiates on this path to katabasis. The Even Passage Of The Sun, Terrence Suraj Arjoon

Senior Projects Spring 2017

A collection of poems that explore the relation of the individual to the world, a world of violence, complex systems of nature and industry, and beauty. The contemporary experience is filtered through the lenses of alchemy and metallurgy, drawing upon my personal history and readings in an attempt to make something completely atemporal.

From A Poetry Handbook For Mining Engineers, Jolene M. Brink Mrs

Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers

This poetry collection utilizes A.G. Charleton’s Report Book for Mining Engineers (Whitehead, Morris & Co, 1908). The original 200-page report book contains questions and blank entries for the engineer to collect information for mine owners planning to sell or acquire property. The poems in from A Poetry Handbook for Mining Engineers use the artifact of this handbook—and the unanswered questions in the found text—to interrogate historic language surrounding mining and excavation, as well as material accumulation, alchemical practices, and the tradition of mining in northern Minnesota and the Norwegian village of Røros.

Dangerous Instincts, Kirsten Holt Jan 2013

Dangerous Instincts, Kirsten Holt

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Dangerous Instincts is a collection of poems unified thematically by recurring and interstitial questions of the wilderness, the natural sciences - particularly astrophysics - the occult, and the mythic universe. These poems explore the mystical implications of the natural world and its meaning in the aesthetic consciousness, particularly in a highly secular century. Implied is the poet’s selfdiscovery and search for the divine. The collection emerges, not simply as interpretation, but a means of coming to terms with the fear of and compulsion to question the universe, and through those questions find illumination in the ordinariness of lived life and …
