Arte En Las Calles, Graffiti En Granada: Un Movimiento En Cambio, Alyson Virginia Visser Apr 2006

Arte En Las Calles, Graffiti En Granada: Un Movimiento En Cambio, Alyson Virginia Visser

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Contemporary Art In Samoa: The Role Of Personal Expression, Christina Cioffari Apr 2006

Contemporary Art In Samoa: The Role Of Personal Expression, Christina Cioffari

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

Contemporary art is a means of creating and recreating the self, a means of self reflection and defining ones identity. Conceptual art that expresses personal ideas and emotions plays a small role in the arts of Samoa, however it does exist in the minds and galleries of a few individuals. The intention of this study is to examine the role that personal expression plays in Samoan society and the artwork created here. The attitudes and approaches to contemporary art was explored, in addition to the underlying causes of those perceptions.

The foundation of this paper evolved out of statements from …

William Anthony Fine Binder, Peter D. Verheyen Feb 2006

William Anthony Fine Binder, Peter D. Verheyen

Libraries' and Librarians' Publications

William “Bill” Anthony (1926-1989) was arguably one of the most influential bookbinders and conservators in the US. His impact cannot be measured by his work alone but also by his legacy as demonstrated by all those he trained, many of whom are now leaders in the field in their own right. Lawrence Yerkes’ forward and Helen Ryan’s introduction to the catalog describe not only Anthony’s life and work, but also the emotional bond they had with him and his spirit that touched so many.

Socio-Cultural Degeneration And State Patronage Of The Arts: Mapplethorpe, Cultural Crisis, And The Nea, Greyson C. Brooks Jan 2006

Socio-Cultural Degeneration And State Patronage Of The Arts: Mapplethorpe, Cultural Crisis, And The Nea, Greyson C. Brooks

Undergraduate Research Symposium (UGRS)

The goal of this paper is to investigate how the Untied States federal government, specifically through the National Endowment for the Arts, or NEA, has acted in the position of an arts patron in the past few decades. Specifically, this paper will focus on the past decade and a half since the 'arts crisis' of the late 1980s and the social and political backlash against the art community in the 1990s, which was only against ‘offensive’ art that was seen as morally and culturally corruptive. I explore the political, social, and economic forms the backlash took, particularly rooted in a …

The German Case Binding, Peter D. Verheyen Jan 2006

The German Case Binding, Peter D. Verheyen

Libraries' and Librarians' Publications

The case (Bradel) binding is the most common, general purpose binding structure in use by binders in Germany. What sets it apart from other case bindings is that the cover boards and spine stiffener are joined together with a strip of sturdy paper before covering. This allows the covers to be fit precisely to the textblock, especially at the joint and fore-edge. For this reason the structure is also very well suited to beginners. Books using this structure are generally covered in full cloth, paper, or a combination of the two. The structure is not well suited to leather binding …
