Digital Innovations, Environment and Fashion is the title of my senior Capstone thesis project for the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design at Syracuse University. For this project, I designed a collection of six complete outfits that explore the theme of the natural environment and technology. The thesis project was presented in a public fashion show at Syracuse University at the end of April 2015.

In this creative reflective essay, a brief history of technology in fashion design will be explored. In chapter two, my inspirations and research in fashion design, art, and photography all support my decisions …

The Artist, The Workhorse: Labor In The Sculpture Of Anna Hyatt Huntington, Brooke Baerman

Honors Capstone Projects - All

Anna Hyatt Huntington (1876-1973) was an American sculptor of animals who founded the nation’s first sculpture garden, Brookgreen Gardens, in 1932. Hyatt Huntington, whose personal papers are housed at Syracuse University, is an important yet understudied artist. Focusing on Hyatt Huntington’s sculptures in Brookgreen Gardens and on the gardens themselves, which also included a zoo, this paper will examine themes of labor in the artist’s oeuvre.

Hyatt Huntington placed an emphasis on hard work as she fought to distinguish herself as a sculptor in a male-dominated field. The products of her labor often venerate the work of animals, from bulls …

Between the Sheets: An Exploration of Video Art as a Medium for Intimacy and Private Reflection is a multi-projection installation that uses video art to create an environment for peaceful thought and mediation. The design consists of a corridor leading to an area encircled by a large curved wall. Viewers enter the corridor alone and are greeted by a young woman projected on the wall of the corridor. She guides the viewer through the passage to the curved area where a life-sized projection of a forest awaits. Here, the viewer is invited to stay to enjoy the freedom from distraction …

Exploring Spaces: A Series Of Video Experiments, Nicholas R. Kinling

Honors Capstone Projects - All

My overall intention of this project was use the Honors Thesis Project to apply what I have learned while studying art video to create a collection of successful videos that allow me to work above and beyond the art video curriculum. I was eager to work independently on a long-term project, and the Honors Thesis Project provided me with both an exciting and challenging opportunity to display my academic initiative and creative drive.

Upon completion of the thesis project, I selected six video art pieces that I felt were most successful and relevant to the project theme. The theme of …

A Place Apart: Myth And Sacred Space, Diana Hazel May 2005

A Place Apart: Myth And Sacred Space, Diana Hazel

Honors Capstone Projects - All

“When old myths are lost, new ones are needed. Myths flourish and fade and die, but new myths are born, old ones are resurrected, and hybrid forms combining new and old emerge when times change or cultures mingle” (Graves: 1959, 9).

The original concept of this project was to create a CD-ROM database of mythology from various cultures and time periods throughout history. The first few months of my work were carried out with this end in mind. Since then, the project has taken a more personal turn. Instead of presenting the mythologies of other people, I have created my …

On Earth, Laura Mariposa Williams

Honors Capstone Projects - All

When Junior year arrived, along with the opportunity to start a thesis project, Kristina Foley and I agreed that this was right opportunity for us to create a body of collaborative art works. From there we decided to present our final works at Spark Gallery. Our show, On Earth, is a collection of works in varying media. Overall, we have three videos, two narrative, photographic series, two mural photographs, a driftwood sculpture, felted pelts and photographic frames, a book of poetry and drawings held in knitted pouches, and a shadow cloth mural.

What does it mean to be working …
