By discussing the cultural role of iconography, this article explores the likely source of representations in Felipe Guaman Pomade Ayala's The First New Chronicle and Good Government. His process of appropriation serves as a model of the new Andean cultural production by showcasing how emblematic allegories have been used in Latin America to illustrate Colonial manuscripts as well as national emblems and public art.

The Ayacucho retablo has changed dramatically as a result of life events and experiences. Its most prominent architects were not strangers to the period of violence, as they experienced it firsthand. I want to comment on a set of Edilberto Jimenez retablos in what we might call an "ethics of testimony," or an act by which authors take responsibility for that which they represent, believing that their goal is to reveal the truth and to discover a new range of possible truths by doing so. iii. Situate the Adinkra symbols within Abstraction and examine its narrative potential as a non-discursive mode of communication in drawing.

Advertising agencies are incorporating new forms of interactive media into campaigns as media continues to rapidly change. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study is to explore how five creative professionals at leading advertising agencies in the Midwest are integrating interactive media into campaigns. Through a series of interviews this project helps solidify what it means to integrate interactive media. The findings illustrate a fundamental shift in an industry that is moving away from “advertising.” An industry built around traditional media now requires creatives to incorporate dynamic, mobile, and social media into the marketing mix. Geppō 月報, journal‐like pamphlets issued within monographic sets, are important resources containing material that complements the volumes with which they are issued.1 Typical contents for geppō include: brief academic articles, chronologies, bibliographies, reminiscences‐as‐biographies, editorial notes, biographical sketches of contributors to the series, errata and corrigenda, tables of contents, indexes, and information about other volumes in the series. Despite their wealth of contents—much of which can be found only in these publications—geppō traditionally have been overlooked and underappreciated. "It could have been me. It could have been me."
These were the words uttered by painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, who was deeply shaken after he heard the story of a black graffiti artist who was beaten to death by New York City police. Seeing his own life reflected in the death of a fellow artist, Basquiat went on to create Defacement (The Death of Michael Stewart), not only to commemorate the young man's death, but also to challenge the state-sanctioned brutality that men of color could face for pursuing their art in public spaces.

Pronoun Production Order In A Gender-Neutral Language: A Single Case Study Of A Typically Developing Indonesian Child, Bernard A.J Jap

Research in children with normal language development has shown that there is a certain order in the production and learning of pronominal forms. To one’s knowledge, there has yet to be a study on the pronoun development of Indonesian speaking children whose native language do not distinguish between the nominative-accusative form (e.g. in English, I/me – Indonesian, saya/saya) and at the same time being gender neutral (e.g. in English, he/she – Indonesian, dia/dia). The present study follows the personal pronoun development of a (Jakarta) Indonesian-speaking child from 24 months to 46 months of age.

Second Life is a virtual world accessible through the Internet in which users create objects and spaces, and interact socially through 3D avatars. Certain artists use the platform as a medium for art creation, using the aesthetic, spatial, temporal and technological features of SL as raw material. Code and scripts applied to animate and manipulate objects, avatars and spaces are important in this sense. The Telling Line: The Relationship Between Cognitive Style And Fashion Design Sketching, Mary K. Culpepper

Creative Studies Graduate Student Master's Theses

This mixed-methods exploratory study addresses a gap in the literature by testing for links between cognitive style and the gestalt of sketches produced by college-level fashion design students. Students’ cognitive styles were appraised with the FourSight assessment, a measure of problem-solving preference gaining use in design schools. Then participants sketched fashion designs to complete a design brief. Panels of raters trained in FourSight reviewed the sketches to assess the cognitive styles of the sketchers. Quantitative analysis revealed a significant degree of interrater reliability, while qualitative analysis indicated emergent themes of selection, attitude, and innovation that aligned with FourSight types. This project focuses on American prison writings from the late 1990s to the 2000s. Much has been written about American prison intellectuals such as Malcolm X, George Jackson, Eldridge Cleaver, and Angela Davis, who wrote as active participants in black and brown freedom movements in the United States. However the new prison literature that has emerged over the past two decades through higher education programs within prisons has received little to no attention.
